Results matter though and UCLA is a complete disaster.

I think you give voters' too much credit. Maybe the win won't look as bad in a few weeks, but there is little doubt that the loss is absolutely terrible to virtually every pundit today. It was "historically bad" is all that I have seen in the media. Losing a game as a 3 td favorite will hurt, regardless of where you are ranked. Therefore, I doubt a number of voters will take the position you have proposed (at least today).

The reality is that Penn State is 3-2 with no P4 wins and an ugly loss (for now). That is deserving of falling out of the rankings (though they will likely still be at the backend of the top 25).

I disagree. The majority of pollers are going to view losing to UCLA as a very bad loss. Especially when it’s the second week of October and you haven’t even beat a Power 4 team for the entire season.

Somewhat true, but Miami and Oregon were very close in votes last week. Miami picking up a ranked road win this week gave them more boost than the shine of the Oregon win fading. Both Oregon and Miami are still very tight in number of votes, so it is not unexpected to see the flip there. Likewise, I expect Oregon to jump Miami next week if they hold serve at home...hopefully to #1.

How many 4 & 5 star recruits on those Texas, Penn St rosters? Feel like our coaching in certain areas could be improved for sure, but yet not nearly as poor as it could be / people claim it is

I have zero gripe with our ranking. I live 40 minutes from Notre Dame and have for 14 years! I see every game whether I want to or not and only one season in 14 have I agreed with their ranking. I am sick and tired of the preferential treatment that UND gets by voters. Even last year I knew that once they played any real team, they would lose!

I think we should be switched with 2-loss Notre Dame, but the Indiana game is obviously still leaving a bad taste in the voters' mouths. And yes, I know both of their losses were by a combined 4 points, while our 1 loss was by a team's average half of NBA basketball, but still...

I'm pretty happy with our spot, though. At least logic finally seems to have mostly prevailed! Go Illini!! 🧡 💙

I agree with your analysis. It will be interesting to see how AP voters and CFP panel treat ND going forward. The rest of their schedule is fairly soft; it’s possible they are 10-2 at the end of the year, but without a single win over a ranked team. USC game is their biggest remaining challenge.

Yeah I was surprised we jumped this far in both polls. But I also haven’t tried to tie out who deserves what in our “neighborhood” either.
