Oregon can't wait to get out of Lincoln. Nb can't miss even though Oregon hasn't played one bit of defense.

tre white having a good season. he was also having a good season around this time for us then went into the Brad doghouse for several games and barely played after that until later in the season... did ever learn what happened there?

FWIW I attended the Tennessee-A&M game in Knoxville this evening. A lot of fun through 2OT, though sloppy early for UT, which couldn't pull within two until under 5 left in regulation. I didn't find it atrocious at all. A&M played tough D and moved the ball well. It looked like a much better team (at least tonight) than its #40 KenPom rating indicates (although, obviously, it isn't.) And Nate Ament for UT was a force in the clutch.

One thing that floors me when I watch a game live is how lightning-quick these guys have to be to achieve separation for a clean jumper, and how intense the defense is. Noted that a couple weekends ago with the Illini v. PSU at the Palestra.

I don't watch SEC ball often, and it's only one data point; however, the officiating was a breath of fresh air. The refs let the guys play until the home stretch of regulation when they began calling it tighter, but not unfairly IMO. I'm jealous if that's the norm.

I wore my orange Block I quarter-zip proudly in Thompson-Boling Arena. Clashed with the creamsicle orange, which I enjoyed. :illinois:

That’s the Achilles heel of Iowa State. They are really good defensively and play HARD, but if Moncilovic (sp) isn’t shooting well they struggle to score.

I’ve grown to realize that coaches always have to “give something up” with a team. It’s practically impossible to have a team that is as offensively efficient as Illinois and as defensively sound as Houston. The key is how you manage and work through what isn’t your focus and identity.

Yes. It’s an interesting counter factual. Of course dollar figures are still opaque but if KU gave Tre roughly what we gave Andrej, would we have preferred to bring Tre back? Certainly a better shooter than Dre and he’s taken a leap this year. And also, Tre certainly earned a raise with his play last year but I don’t know that he had done anything to earn top banana money or a top banana role. He was our third or fourth option basically all year.

And as others have alluded to, he did get in Brad’s doghouse so I wonder if we are better off in the aggregate from a culture/fit perspective with Andrej even if Tre has better individual stats. And that’s not counting the potential rifts caused by giving our fourth banana first banana type money. If I were Kylan and all of a sudden Tre gets 1.5-2x what I’m getting after last year, I’m going to be salty about it.

Hard to know, but I’m glad we have the team we have.

crazy score, especially considering oregon was predicted by the media to finish 5th and nebraska something like 14th or 15th this year. for some reason i can't find the link and i was just looking at it the other day.

My recollection is that Tre wanted more ISOs & shot attempts and wasn't very tactful about it (to say it nicely) and this persisted into the latter part of the season, even as he was welcomed back into the rotation.

Maybe someone can shed more light on this?

I think, if the above is accurate, we can weigh Andrej (a guy who wanted to sacrifice personal accolades to be part of a winning program) against Tre (a guy who wanted personal accolades).

Again, this is all just conjecture based on what the scuttlebutt was at the time of Tre's 'doghousing'.

EDIT: Just realized how off-topic this is... I'll keep that in mind when posting, sorry everyone

I am glad Illlinois took Andrej over Tre. With no looking back and wondering what if. Morez is a different story (but I imagine the staff also would like to have Morez)

in general, who is a better coach? McCullom? or Devries? Who has more upside? Who will be at their new program longer?

I think we will find out a lot more when Stirtz and Tucker Devries leave those respective programs. The ascension of these players has coincided with the ascension of those coaches. Who made whom?
I'd lean McCollum on all counts, but Iowa seems like a tougher sell to top recruits.
Expectations at Indiana are higher, so any mis-steps by Devries will add him to the pile with Woodson, Miller, Crean, Davis...

Agree. I may be misremembering but I seem to remember hearing Iowa doesn’t really have the basketball NIL resources you would think. Fran hit on Garza and the Murray’s who were all under recruited kids, but after they left the wheels kind of fell off. Will be interesting to see what McCollum can do.

Totally. To be clear, I really didn't factor in too much stuff that happened "off the court" or as you pointed out, feelings around who get's what $$$ wise. It does seem that by season's end, atleast minutes based, Brad and Tre were on the same page.

I mean this more solely from a roster construction point of view. I like having both Z's and Merk and Ben off the bench. I love Andrej. But if you had Tre as part of this group, I think your top 7 guys would be insane. Plus another big wing who can defensd, gets downhill, gives you far more spacing than Morez (44% from 3 this year on volume), and who is actually a better rebounder than Morez.

As you said though, he's really the second guy in Lawerence, and because Peterson has been hurt so much, the first guy much of the time. I think it's worked for both, but we'd be nasty.

White's mental make up was detrimental to the team last year for whatever reason. I wouldn't give any of our top 8 for him.
