Northwestern picks up their first B1G win of the year, winning at USC.

On the flip side, USC torpedoed their resume.

I’m not mad at it. Northwestern went into the game at #79 in NET. I imagine that’s now a Q1 win. Hopefully it stays that way.

USC went into the game at #48, so should remain Q1 through the season.

I would think this win would get NW in the top 75..which would mean for USC it would then be a quad 2 loss and not as bad

Ty Schmit on the Pat McAfee show absolutely roasted Mick Cronin after the UCLA v Purdue game... if you can find the clip on YT or Reddit, give it a listen... good stuff haha

It’s genuinely crazy how much people are underestimating Wisconsin. It happens every season. You don’t think much of them, but you look up at the standings in March and they’re right at the top.

There was a moment a few years ago where the "Wisconsin Way" seemed to be collapsing in both football and basketball under "next man up" coaches who were operating a system they didn't build, they took the headline-making and fan-thrilling big dramatic action of firing Paul Chryst and making the big name big money mega-hire to replace him, while taking the mediocrity-accepting, fan-angering choice of keeping the faith with Greg Gard.

Look at them now. A very big lesson there.

What's up with Muss? Dude killed it at Arkansas and been downhill since.
They scored a huge 1-8 upset in the tournament that makes their 22-23 season look better than it was, but really you look at Muss' record and it's a guy who has fallen off a cliff since the NIL/Portal regime established itself. Many such cases.

Under Gard they're regular season merchants who choke in March, and they haven't won the Big Ten Tournament. Unless you're hardcore into the unbalanced schedule that is the Big Ten regular season, it's hard to take them seriously. As someone who values winning the Big Ten regular season the least of any potential accomplishment, I'd have fired Gard by now. It's clear his teams are winning based on the resources/reputation and not anything he's doing coaching-wise.

It's already happened to most of the older "Elite" Coaches from the 00's and 10's. It's really just Self and Izzo left. Now that the bluebloods don't have that "under the table" advantage...NIL is the best thing to happen to NCAA sports (y)

I think Gard is perfect where he is. They are never terrible but he's good enough to keep his gig. They can beat us but hardly the same as with Bo. Wouldn't want them to fall into an upgrade.

glass houses.

yes, i know we've won two recent b10 tourney titles. real, sustained ncaa success still eludes us, but it's always been that way.

They've beaten Michigan and nobody else.

UCLA in their own time zone is a very different beast than UCLA in the central or eastern time zones. They're 40th on KenPom for a reason.

Nobody is underestimating them but people don't glaze them like some of yall on here do every year.

Look at their remaining schedule. They’ll be one of the top teams in the league, barring something crazy.

That win @Michigan may be the single biggest resume builder in the sport.

Not sure you understood my initial comment. I didn’t say anything in regards to them going deep in the tourney, or that they’ve built some insurmountable program, or that they should keep or fire Gard.

My point was simply that in this year’s conference standings, they’ll be one of the top teams when the regular season concludes in March.
