Random thought.

NW has “away court” advantage because they are used to playing in front of more opponents’ fans at their home.

Could explain why they are tough on the road.

Penn State lost to Michigan State, Michigan, Purdue and Illinois by an average of 5 points.

Penn State lost to Indiana, UCLA, Maryland, and Wisconsin (for a half) by an average of 27 points.
I think at some point it’s a reflection of the locker room. Truth is they’re very undermanned talent wise, so it takes a certain mental makeup to get up for every game, especially after cumulative losses.

They had a bad 34pt loss to Pittsburgh. Then go into the new year, and start out with four **relatively** competitive games against Illinois, Michigan, Purdue, UCLA.

Their last two games against MD and WISC they just haven’t shown up.

Today is the first game Mingo’s played since Jan 2 against Illinois.

KenPom projects them to finish 11-9. What am I missing?
Here’s their remaining schedule. I don’t see them losing any of the next three, and I think they find a way to go 2-2 in the stretch of IND, IL, MSU, OSU.

Going into those final 6 games with just 4 losses should make you a team to be reckon with. JMO.

Obviously there’s always a scenario to fall off a cliff.

KenPom has them losing 7 of their last 9.

I'm glad I am not into sports gambling. I thought there was a decent chance Penn State knocked off Wisconsin tonight...

Really looking forward to a few of the early games on Saturday:

11 am CT - Nebraska @ Minnesota - can Nebraska finally lose one already, please
11 am CT - #22 UNC @ #14 Virginia - curious to know how UVa got good all of a sudden
1 pm CT - Illinois women @ #24 Nebraska - it's on BTN, been watching a lot of their games this year
1 pm CT - #6 Houston @ #12 Texas Tech - they moved this time up due to weather, 17 degrees with snow in Lubbock (!), go Red Raiders

My feeling is that Mingo is gone after this year.

1-5 in Q1 games with almost all of them being blowouts. Maybe they turned a corner, but I'm calling the Michigan game a fluke for now. Michigan was up by 14 in that one and I think they just stopped playing plus Wisconsin went nuclear from 3. The Badgers are your classic live by the 3 die by the 3 team.

I do think it’s cool they play tOSU twice. Torvik projects Wisconsin at a 8.7 seed and tOSU a 9.2 seed. Both teams are good offensively and soft defensively. Those games should be very close and pivotal to each teams season.

At this point, I'm rooting for Nebraska to stay undefeated (means winning @Michigan) until we play them next weekend. Then we can give them their first loss.

I would happily take 17 degrees up here in the frigid northern Illinois area.

EIU beat Southern Indiana, 59-51 Thursday night in OT.

Zion Fruster with 25pts. Hit the game tying basket with 17 seconds remaining and scored all 9 OT points.

I know we'll lose at some point...if we come out of that with a loss to Illinois I'll be over the moon. The rest of the schedule sets up pretty good after that.

We did just lose our super athletic 6th man for at least Minnesota and maybe more with an ankle sprain so that's concerning but I definitely want to be undefeated against Michigan. That's going to be a battle.

I know after the game with you guys there was a lot of 'they just were hot shooting' comments...well...we've had a lot of that this year, we're just a pretty deadly shooting team, it wasn't luck haha. We are 6-0 vs Q1 for a reason (I believe 7-0 if Wisconsin keeps moving up).

This obviously has been the greatest season I've ever been a part of for basketball by a significant factor. A pretty telling stat is we've played like 11 or 12 games since being ranked....the previous 30 years we only played 8 as a ranked team. That's how bad being a Husker basketball fan has been.

I have all the respect in the world for your program and I'm genuinely hoping this isn't just a flash and we can spend a few years with a very respectable team. I think Fred just might be the guy to do it.

Good luck this weekend! Would love to see you guys beat up on Purdont

I'd have fired Gard by now. It's clear his teams are winning based on the resources/reputation and not anything he's doing coaching-wise.

I agree the Bagders have underachieved at times, but I think this is overstating it.
You don't win as many B1G games as he has if you are not a good coach.
