It's not conference games, but this was a pretty enjoyable 3-game string of tournament exits, as a huge favorite in each.

And then in 2024, they barreled through to the National Championship Game! A great lesson not to put TOO much stock in narratives about certain coaches "always choking in March." However ... I admit it was really fun to watch, and I am low key thankful that the rest of the Big Ten in 2021 was so bad in the Tournament that it took a LITTLE bit of the focus off of our Loyola loss! :ROFLMAO:

Does this mean Painter is on the hot seat 🤪

I know you are kidding, but next year will be really interesting for Painter. Braden, Loyer, TKR, and Cluff leaving is going to free up a lot of money. This is the first time Painter will have to reload in the NIL era.

If he has a "meh" season I could see his seat getting hot fast.

Seems unlikely with Purdue history of long term coaches.

There have been ups and downs in rivalries but there's too many good teams in the conference to have (just) one. I tend to like/dislike coaches and base my sentiments off them. Really like Painter, so I don't throw shade at Purdue. Had a work buddy from Purdue, so feel it even moreso. Indiana is a good candidate thanks to how they hired and operated under Sampscum. Him and Pearl I root against always, and yet, I'll admit they're both excellent coaches. Proves you can be talented, hard-working, and still fun to root against. Mizzou hasn't been good enough in a while although I enjoy the border war.

Only reason I'm posting on this is I'm really enjoying this season. The roster was well constructed (Wagler obviously a huge surprise). The misses are far overshadowed by the hits, and Underwood seems to be improving his coaching each year --finding guys that fit, demeanor, etc.. I think he's better suited for the NIL world than the old 'bags under the table world. I'm really interested to see how he does in the post-season. I think this team has the elements you need for a run, but it's always something of a crap shoot with match-ups, who's healthy, officiating, and who's hot. But I see all the elements and these guys have been poised throughout.

why didn't Rutger foul Mich. State with 3 pt lead and seconds left on the clock? what a screw up
Way too much time left. To do that, you ought to have full confidence in your execution and foul shooting. They were already missing FTs.

Wut? Painter went to a national championship game 2 years ago.

His seat in West Lafayette is almost permanently ice cold.

Same here! MSU has always been my second favorite. Mostly for the color Green, but also because they're the only B1G team I've ever witnessed win a Natty (Mateen was a freak). That streak has to end at 25 years, right? I'll put all my eggs in the Illini winning basket (y)

Yeah would have to have an unmitigated disaster of a season to even get his seat to normal cold LOL

Hasnt missed a tourney in 10 years (although i think he wouldve missed it in 2020..)
4 conf titles in last 10 years
Made at least 2nd wkend in 6 of last 10 years

Man that would be messed up if all it took was a pedestrian year or two to make his seat hot after his last 10 years there, JMO

You made me look. They were 16-15 (9-11) in 19-20. They definitely wouldn't have made it.

Please allow me to introduce you to the Michigan Wolverines. They are worthy of your hatred year in and year out.
Yep...as a former athlete, I understand fully the sacrifices of elite athletes in any sport and respect all teams and competitors. All of them..........with one exception. Cheatigan. Why? They are the only program that has deliberately and with intention cheated since entering competition with other colleges and universities over 125 years ago. That fact is documented and consistent behavior. Other programs have done so from time to time, generally without the knowledge of the athletic dept. leadership. However, generally Michigan has chosen the low road with the approval of and often at the direction of their athletic PTB. That is what it means and will always mean to be a "Michigan Man".

If you have to hate....Michigan deserves it.

As for the other B1G teams, there are various levels of respect. But one must remember, the more respect you have for a program, the more a victory against them is enjoyed. That is why we relish Saturday's win against the Boilers while the Rutgers victory is long forgotten. Our upcoming win against Michigan may be the zenith of the season. Nebraska has just now required our attention, but Indiana is another story because of history. And yet, if we beat the Hoosiers this year, it will not mean as much as it did in the Knight years. It is a struggling program due to poor coaching hires since Knight was forced out. We should cherish the Underwood hire.

Iowa went over 6 minutes without scoring a point to start the endgame against USC lol. They’re at home too

Part of my shrinking disdain for other programs comes from my inner fight to abstain from tribalism. Generally speaking, I think it's a big problem in nearly every societies collective time period.

I used to just generally hate Iowa and Indiana. But until someone specifically in the program does something I find problematic (TKR has me hating him at the moment based on his recent antics) I find myself being somewhat ambivalent towards them.

I lost all my recent hatred for Iowa when Fran left. When Juwan left, I sort of lost my hatred of Michigan. Morez and this current team have me in limbo a bit still, although I'm rather annoyed he left.

All the movement that players make have diminshed this as well. I don't have much time to carry over my grievances.

Watching Tennesse vs Georgia (go TN, since our win vs them has lost some shine).

The SEC network's production ranks right up there with B1G+ (also watching Illini ladies vs UCLA).

Woof.

Bleh. These two teams stink big time. Iowa did everything they could to give the game away, but USC didn't want it.

Complete collapse by Iowa bailed out by a really dumb foul m
