Really hoping Nebraska can give Wisconsin their 2nd conference loss tonight. Come on Huskers, get a big emotional win under your belt and then come see us in Champaign for the letdown.

We need to get our bite back defensively. Would like to finish top 20 in adjusted defense. Right now we are 33, but Terrence was easily our best perimeter defender before his suspension. His play on Thornton showed he is close to being back. I’m also hoping Dre can provide some bite as an on ball defender for smaller quicker guards.

But agree on NW and Wisconsin too. Just feels like they are both on about a 5 week heater. Think both will cool off some and they will drop a few games the second half of the year.

Sorry NW couldn’t pull that one out last night. Would have been great being tied with Purdue after 10 games. Oh well. If we want to win the BIG we have little to no margin for error, but with our full squad no reason we can’t go 8-2 or 9-1 over our last 10.
I felt Harmon was playing really good on ball defense against Ohio State as well.

I also believe that NW and Wisc shooting will come back to normal. Nb earlier was shooting was out of sight. Now they are back to normal. Go Illini.

ties will be resolved
I watched that Glenbard West team when they made it to state a couple years ago. Entire starting 5 plus the first player off the bench went D-I. 2 of the starters went to West Point and another went to Princeton. The first player off the bench was Paxton Warden, who was a PWO on the Illini roster last season, but decided to transfer back home and go to D-II Lewis University.

eh, Warden started every game.

I just don't think you can look at that stat and make a determination. There is more to it than that. Edey doesn't need to do much impact a shot, which means he doesn't foul drivers often, therefore they don't drive. They shoot jump shots instead, which don't draw as many fouls.

I know we want to hate on Purdue, but I try hard not to be biased.

You're trying hard not to be biased and in general, you're right. But last night was an anomaly of ridiculous proportions.

Purdue's free throw rate is 14th best in the country at FTA/FGA = 42.3%. Last night that number was 46/57 = 80.7%. Purdue's defense allows a free throw rate of 22.4%, which is 8th best in the country. Last night Northwestern was 8/66 = 12.1%. They essentially shot double their average rate while they allowed half their average rate.

Boo Buie's FT rate is 28.6%. He didn't shoot a single free throw on 19 field goal attempts last night. If the game was played to Purdue's averages, Purdue would have shot 24 free throws and Northwestern would have shot 15.

Honest question: have you attended a game at SFC both recently, and also at any point 15-30 years ago?
it felt different/less intense to me when i went back recently, but i also can’t tell if that’s just me getting older and yelling at clouds so to speak

i also wonder if ticket pricing is too stiff for some of the intense C-sectioners I used to sit by going to games with my family. that’s where the loud people sat

According to sports-reference, the last time a game between two p6 teams featured that great of a free throw disparity was 2008, when Oklahoma shot 46 compared to Purdue's 5 (ironic, I guess).
The only other game since then that has featured even one p6 team and a greater disparity was Cincinnati vs Arkansas Pine Bluff in 2015. 59-11 in Cincy's favor. We are talking about an incident that if there were a prop bet for it, the odds would have been placed at ~14,000 : 1 (+1.4M). Just to put it into perspective.

Totally not a hook in front of the ref. 😒

Thanks for posting that clear look at the hook. I believe he went nuts because of this call and also, to a larger degree, the no call on
Buie at the end of regulation. He was clearly bumped hard as he went by for the last second attempt. You can't make that call all game against NW and then eat your whistle when it counts most. Purdue will not make the F4.

Frankly that game was typical of how most big10 games are officiated, poorly. The refs let them play in the first half and NW mauled them and got away with it. Then as usual in the second half the refs started calling everything. Purdue didn't get called for as many fouls because they just don't play good defense and aren't as physical except for Edey. They called a lot of fouls on NW but easily could have called a dozen more. Too bad they both can't get a loss.

It's not just you. SFC can get rocking but there are times where it's as bad as the worst games under Groce. I remember the white out game tradition being a total swing and a miss for us lol. The apathy from the crowd is the most noticeable when they play Hail to the Orange. It's sad.

Personally I saw a number of times when the fouls happened out at the top of the key when Boo would split the defenders . Happened to Berry and Longborg as well. The Purdue guards were swiping down a lot and not making contact with the ball while the help defense would come in with the lower body. Thats what made Buie’s performance that much more impressive to me. He was able to get to the basket on a number of occasions just by sheer will.

What I think you described @Chad Fleck is exactly what happened to us when we played at Mackey.

I agree. It’s kind of a bummer that it’s inconsistent overall/not nearly as rabid as it was years ago. But you know, if fans have changed…

I think we should fake it until we make it.

Maybe we should be trying to do more of the things known to work. i.e. Mc- NUGGETS!

MORE promotions/endorsements merchandising! merchandising!

It’s the age of NIL…let’s get creative.

Picture it:

Coleman Cooler Giveaway/Raffle coinciding with a Coleman Hawkins Double-Double? (It’s a work in progress)

Any Illini player takes a charge…free cheeseburger…from misc. burger joint

A Domask Double-Double? How bout a free stack of flapjacks with a coupon?

Etc etc….

More banners…more props…more orange and blue anyway we can get it.

We should be throwing stuff at a 🎯 a dartboard and seeing what sticks IMO.

Every time I see a Spaceballs gif/pic/reference I make a mental note to watch it, but always forget.

I am amazed at how much Wisconsin improved over last year.
Their losses are Tennesee, Providence, Arizona @ Penn State
Their quality wins are Virginia, Marquette
Can't wait till we play them

I have been going to games there for 45 years and I agree there was a time it could be much louder. I wonder if the remodel with the expensive seating areas have had a bigger impact than anticipated. I'm sure a lot of those are corporate seats and may not be filled with as rabid fans as before the huge price bump in costs. There are games that are sold out and I still see a fair number of empty seats in those areas. They are also near the floor and so the reduction in noise is more noticeable. I have season tickets in the upper level, and the people up there are loud as hell. The students also don't seem to maintain their energy for extended periods. They are all active when the camera is panning the crowd though lol. Just as well I don't have seats near the floor as I would rarely see the end of game. I would get booted by one the three blind mice in striped shirts after a few WTF calls that happen almost every game.

Nah… they’re still soft, don’t play much defense. At some point before the season ends they’ll fall back to Earth with their shooting percentages & we’ll remember why they lost to Chicago State..
They still have trouble on the road too (at this point). Yea they got up for Purdue but still are lacking that important piece that you need to be near the top of the league.

One issue I have is the music choice they play over the speakers during halftime and breaks, which is also WAY to loud on the bass

A few years ago they were playing "I'm bringing Sexy back" by Justin Timberlake

I mean.....really?

I gotta say, I've been a bit taken aback by the hatin' on SFC, Krush, and our homecourt advantage in this thread.

I haven't seen any "hatin'".....but I'll be the first to admit I have called them out recently.

We screamed and hollered to get the SFCAH student section redone correctly....and they did it. Yet somehow this isn't resulting in an overwhelming student section such as the Izzone, Paint Crew, and probably the Clown Pants AH.

When they are tuned in....they are as good as any, but they are on and off. They should be "ON"...full stop, tip to buzzer. They should overwhelm visitors. They should never be seated, not even during timeouts.

This program deserves that type of commitment from the Krush. We are seeing the most successful run in our MBB history. It doesn't look to be slowing down any time soon.

Make it the best....with zero doubt.
