For me, it's a clear hatred toward Duke over KU.
1. I harbor no ill will toward Bill Self anymore ... guy was great for us, and I believe him that KU was the only job he'd leave Illinois for.
2. I visited KU's campus while in college, and I truly loved it. It's always led me to have a bit of a soft spot for Kansas.
3. While KU is still "an annoying Blue Blood" from our perspective, I don't see them as anywhere near as annoying as Duke. Within the insular world of only Blue Bloods, their history was a lot more like Illinois than some of the other Blue Bloods (i.e., consistently good and often falling short of cutting down the nets for how good they always were). KU is easy to hate from our vantage point, but when judging just Blue Bloods ... they're less "Evil Empire" than Duke by miles, IMO.
4. The media, and especially ESPN, might hype up Kansas a little ... but it's nothing compared to Duke. The worshiping of Duke is why they're so nauseating.
5. There is literally nothing worse than a fan who adopts a frontrunner for college hoops but cheers for a different front runner when football season runs around ... just an indefensible and practically inhuman bandwagon behavior, IMO. While Kansas might have some bandwagon basketball fans that cheer for like Nebraska or Oklahoma in football (yes, I have heard of this), a WAY higher percentage of their basketball fan base cheers for their football team. Duke, on the other hand, is the poster child for bandwagon basketball fans that bail when football season comes around.
6. If we beat 'Bama and Duke loses to Kansas, we probably pass them!

The best thing we can hope for is for the Committee to refuse to accept that the SEC is overrated and for us to get a team like Arkansas in our region as a 4/5 seed (yes, I'm onboard the Illini as a #1 seed train!!) ... anything can happen in March, but I am NOT impressed, lol.Texas AM and Arkansas struggling in their payout games. Winthrop had the ball at the end of the game up 1. Arkansas refused to foul and there was a 7 second shot/game clock difference.
Winthrop player throws terrible pass mid possession and Arky goes coast to coast, goes up 1.
After the arky player scored he absolutely pummeled a Winthrop player to the ground for... standing in front of him. In return a double technical was called on the Arkansas player as well as... the Winthrop player? For getting beat up? Make it make sense?

I legitimately could see, if you were doing everything not to decide the game with a call, a double flagrant at first. But then Pringle pushed him down again! Like 5 second after the initial takedown lol
In all honesty Winthrop has zero excuse however. They were up 5 with 1:30 to go, with turnovers on their next two possessions directly leading to ARK baskets. If that player didn't throw that pass, and they take a shot at the end of the clock, that game is essentially over.
