When you say a trip was enough that implies the tournament covered the travel costs. They usually don't. That's what makes Players Era so special- teams participate for free and get paid on top of it.

I meant it in the sense of a perk for the players (come play for me, Mr. Recruit - we're going to Maui next year).
But you are both right. Admins probably always disliked the cost and plenty of coaches disliked the schedule. Just ask Hurley when you see him on Friday. ;)

The main reason teams played is they didn't have to count all of the games against their allowed total. Also for hte Great Alaska Shootout. Now, every game counts.

Watching Seton Hall vs USC now. The Hall has a solid 10+ pt lead now simply because they are out-quicking the Trojans. That is exactly how teams can beat the Illini. Simply, our guys will often be matched against quicker teams and must become comfortable and adapt as well as they can....they are not exactly oxen...just not speedy Gonzalez. Can't make them water bugs, but they can learn ways to close the gap with anticipation and effort. Also, must figure ways to use their strengths like height and bulk. Hitting shots is always the difference maker and that has to become more consistent.

Bottom line is that this will be a fascinating season with many great match-ups. Another tough chemistry problem for professor Underwood to solve. Every guy brings some really strong assets, but also some weaknesses. CBU even admitted he is still searching for the answers. I certainly have none but the exercise of finding them is riveting. We should know more in a couple or 3 weeks.

I was 50/50. he is a good glue guy but I think if he's a starter on your team then you probably aren't that good.
I know you’re talking more on his playing style, but a glue guy designation to me involves an element of time. Kind of like Ty hanging around and helping the new guys despite injury.

Hard for me to call someone a glue guy who’s on a different team every year.
