With some players sticking around because of NIL, the infusion of really skilled international players and a lot of impactful freshmen, this season might feature the best overall talent in college basketball in a long time. Maybe ever. Should be a fun roller-coaster ride for a lot of teams, with a large pool of Final Four contenders.

But you also have the Covid seniors gone…

I think the power conferences are really top heavy, there are so many great teams and yet the doormats look extra doormat-y to me

All streaks end eventually!

Yep and I believe someone dove deeper into that and (1) if you move the date back just a few days to Dec 1st, only roughly half of them were still undefeated and (2) very very few of them had actually played a top 10/15 team by that point

Edit: have to wonder which teams win more national championships: teams that go undefeated through November or teams that go undefeated from mid March thru early April ;)

OK - this $2 million prize basketball tournament still bothers me. Apparently, all funds must go to the players on the current roster, and the funds were figured in to their NIL payouts offered by the schools.

When Michigan negotiated payments with its players before the season, the Players Era payouts were simply factored into the total amount the program could offer. “I couldn’t just say X amount is allotted for Yaxel, X is allotted to Morez (Johnson Jr.), X is allotted for Aday (Mara),” Church said. “Because it comes out of the whole amount. It’s one big pie.”

But the players know they are getting paid big $ if they win:

“It’s crazy, just seeing how much money motivates a lot of guys,” Lendeborg said with a laugh, sitting at his locker after Michigan’s 102-72 win over Auburn. “It’s like we’re all playing like we’re about to die for the money. So it’s interesting.”

Hopefully Michigan doesn't play as hard when they are just playing for pride or a conference title.

I hate to say it but Michigan is a nightmare matchup for us with our lack of physicality down low. If only we had a guy like Morez Johnson 🤔. I’ve watched a lot of basketball this year and scUM is, in my opinion, the best team by a wide margin. 🤮🤮🤮
Agreed all around.

Purdue can beat anyone but I think Michigan is the best all around right now (accounting for both ends of the court). They're 1-2 in the country right now IMO

Yaxel is getting a lot more comfortable (and assertive). You can see it growing with every passing game. May is getting better with staggering Mara and Morez on the court. They're deep and athletic as F. They can shoot and defend (latter at a very very high level). Several of their bench wings would be starters on the majority of B1G teams.

Aren’t there more ranked vs ranked games early this year than past years? So that stat seems less applicable than in the past.

So if you play in this tournament or one like it you can elevate your NIL offer during portal season? Is Brad sure he doesn’t want to do these?

Where does this end? Will there be more pay for play games and can anyone limit them? When do we get player contracts with incentives written into them?

They're a matchup nightmare for just about everyone. I agree - they look like the best team in the country.

Michigan is the #1 defensive team in the country and they’ve scored at least 85 points in 6/7 games.

So how you play close to them? Well against WF they were 4/25 from 3. And against TCU they had 21 turnovers. But when they are locked in, I don’t see much to attack. They remind me of UConn with Clingan the way Mara walls up in the paint. Then Morez/Yaxel can switch against anyone. Cadeau hounds people on the perimeter. They have lot of similarities with Houston but more offensive skill.

Who beats them? I think you’d need a small team going nuts from 3 and creating tons of turnovers. Michigan’s main weakness is turnovers. Looking at their schedule there’s a good chance they are 20-0 going into the game in East Lansing at the end of January

Xavian Lee for Florida is shooting 22% from the field for the season.

Walter Clayton ain't walking through that door.

I haven’t seen Dybantsa play yet, but if I was drafting next year I would not pass on Cam Boozer. He’s Jayson Tatum 2.0
