UConn is running action off how Kansas is defending. This is by design by the staff adjusting.

I guess they can same thing about us after the UCONN loss . . .
But we're not playing at home. It's going to be the most intense atmosphere the Intl players have experienced yet (21,678 people). We need an A+ game across the board to even have a chance at a victory.

I've got a brilliant offensive plan anytime you're down 1 score or less. Give the ball to your best guard and let him create no matter what the defense does. If he stumbles, don't worry, he's got it. If he's doubled, sit down, he's got it. If he's driving into multiple big men, I believe I've said he's got it.

There I can be a major college basketball coach.

I get so tired of the plan being hero ball to close out games. Run a damn play. Have secondary options, because more times than not that hero does not get a good shot off.

Watching UCONN/KU and both coaches absolutely use timeouts to stop runs in a way I wish Brad would embrace. He has grown and adjusted a ton but his in-game has a lot of growth potential.
There’s no way he doesn’t see this as like a 4D chess thing, lol, because he NEVER calls a TO in the moments where conventional wisdom says you should.

MSU roster doesn’t seem all that great but they keep winning. Izzo is basically anti current NCAA. Very few transfers, very few three point shots, they are a throwback to the freshman class that gets developed and gradually plays more minutes as they get older. This is an old school Michigan State team without even any real stud freshmen that they used to get
I just don't get it. they shouldn't be good. I look at their roster and go meh, nobody there scares me.... and yet they play hard, together and keep winning. their sum certainly amounts to more than their pieces

Multiple guys in the system for multiple years (Kohler. Fears, Carr, Cooper) They play in the off season, they are just honing in on what they know about their roles in the offense, giving a certain look or eye roll (everyone knows what I mean). When the new guys come in. there is already a player expectation on how to practice, listen to coaches. who to go to when there are health or personal issues. That is a culture. The sum is way more than the parts. Just like PU.

After last nights slate of games I am jealous of all the ranked teams who played poorly yet still win because the other team also played poorly

I know it’s my orange tinted glasses, but this never seems to happen for us lol

Against UConn their very first play was a guy made a three while falling down backwards… I was like “oh ok this is how this is gonna go”

"running actions based off of how the other team is defending"

lolz every team in America does this

But winning is a masterclass in those games.

Wait.. winning a game in which your opponent stinks up the joint (basically, they just sucked more than you did) is a masterclass?

Cam Ward is an excellent freshman who has had a major impact. 9 and 5 a game in a little over 16 minutes. I think at 6’9 and a good athlete he will be a pro.
He didn’t play last night as a precaution with a wrist injury, is expected to play against Duke. Had 18 and 10 against Arkansas where he got 23 minutes. Wil be a factor defensively on Boozer.

It’s easy to attribute “stinking it up” to the team but in reality it’s the scheming and adjustments. I only mentioned the offensive adjustments because those were easily highlighted.

And Kansas is not a good shooting team so the goal is to keep their best shooters from taking the shots comfortably

And yet UConn still played poorly though they won the game… not really what I’d term a “masterclass”

The main thing is when we play poorly we get throttled with criticism on here

When other top 15 teams play poorly (which last night was most of them), endless excuses are made for them… going so far as to refer to a 61 point offensive output as a “masterclass”

A little tiresome to my eyes is all

I just pointed that out in the context of the original post making it sound like UConn was running some elite offense.
I understand.

But here is the point: we do not seem to make in game, planned adjustments as a team like I saw in UConn games.

Also, we just aren’t physical like the Kansas and UConn teams. All the pushing and shoving definitely impacts the shooting prowess of the opposing team.

Getting the W in these tough battles isn’t merely left to the star player. Every position is gutting it out.

Team adjustments is what I see as a difference from what we do. We play NBA style isolation and exploit matchups.
