Hard to believe IU is this bad. I don't think they are. They're just playing down to the competition. Against us, or any other quality team in the meat of conference play, I don't think they'll be this bad.

But man they have not looked the part against these cupcakes. Even their other games were like 5 points at half.
Not hard to believe when they’ve been this bad or mediocre for an almost a decade especially under Woodson.

They still look pretty good.

Currently #5 in NET, #6 in KenPom.

2-4 in Q1 games and no losses outside of Q1.

Very similar resume to us at this point. We’re #14 in NET and 2-3 in Q1 games, no losses outside of Q1.

Assuming we win tomorrow, we’ll likely be within 1-2 spots of each other in the AP.
Agree, very similar resume to Illini’s. And they’re 2-3 against ranked teams (though Indiana no longer ranked) and beat San Diego St when they were unranked. Illini are 2-2 against ranked teams (and Wisconsin now unranked).

Interesting take, considering they have been to 9 straight Sweet Sixteens, including 2 championship games.

In their 26 tournament appearances, they have played to their seed 11 times, outperformed 8 times and underperformed 7 times.
Yeah but they were always over seeded — and Illini always has to play teams that are under seeded. 🙄

I didn't hear complaints like this during last year's Elite 8 run.
To be fair, Luke wasn’t starting and playing 30 minutes against HM opponents.

And also to be fair, with his size and shooting Luke is definitely a P5 player. But his lack of quickness and athleticism relegate him to a specialist role.

I still think Ben has more in his bag than Luke. But I will admit he has struggled with the speed of the P5 level a lot more than I thought. The light bulb may yet come on, but he is trending towards a specialist role as well.

I get why Tyler and Brad got Ben and I get why they are stubborn about playing him. He lets them play the 5 out spacing style that they want. But strangely enough, the team’s strengths are defense and rebounding. Morez at the 4 plays to our strengths.

Yep, but at this point is key. As things stand, they aren’t playing another top 50 team in the regular season while we have 14 games left against current top 50 teams.
But no one is arguing WCC is better than B1G. What prompted this discussion was someone complaining that Gonzaga will remain in top 20 and above Illini and “have done nothing to warrant that.” If Gonzaga isn’t a top 25 team than neither are the Illini. One can argue which should be higher, but both teams deserve to be ranked.

The point of my comment was referring to their seeding in March. Gonzaga has less opportunities for quality wins after letting a few golden opportunities slip by. Whether they should be ranked or not is a completely different issue, but I do think they should be ranked and still fairly high IMO mostly from passing the eye test instead of their record though. Seeding on the other hand will be tricky. I love college basketball and watch a ton of non-Illini games so there’s no bad blood here.

Ben would benefit immensely from another year and I would love that to be here if given the chance. He needs another year with Fletch and ton of agility work and tape sessions.
