My crazy variation on Elam Ending that I'd like to give a try at some level:

1. Play 2 halves / 4 quarters as normal, but slightly shorter than a typical game (so for college, let's go 2 15 minute halves)
2. At the end of regulation, set up the target score ending at higher score + 10. The ending period is played to that score. It could go 2 minutes, it could go 10 minutes.
3. Any player that fouled out (not ejected, just common fouls) can play the ending period, to encourage coaches to leave in good players.
4. Any foul in the ending period is FTs.

What I think that would accomplish:
- End of game wouldn't encourage fouling. Could be some fouling at the end of regulation to get the score as close as possible maybe, but it's easy to let the game get too far away from you with that strategy.
- Overtime games are a thing of the past, all games end on score.
- Every game ends on a made basket/FT.
- Best players play the ending period.
If I was a coach, I’d be fouling like crazy at the end of regulation to keep the other team’s score down — whether my team was leading or losing. Would be lucky to end with 5 players that didn’t foul out, but good luck getting any good shots in during the last 3 minutes of regulation (and it’d take 15 real minutes to get through).

Any team that makes FTs would make this strategy foolish.

Oh but wouldn’t you love to deny him for another game?
Oh for sure I would love it, as it means another win for the good guys. This is stacking up to be a pretty emotional game now for everyone- it’s always a good game when MSU comes to town anyway. I’m a little concerned now about the forecast for Saturday, might impact the crowd size.

Just looked at MSU schedule… there’s a very real possibility they could finish February 1-7…1-3 right now with games @Illinois, Purdue, @Michigan, @Maryland 😂 would love to see it!!
I'd rather they win out and make sure our game stays Q1.

Well lose one or two to make sure we jump them in the standings after we also win out.

This is one of those things where I'd love to see the NIT or that Crown event experiment with this. What I do know is that endings like MSU-IU suck the life out of a basketball game.

Elam Ending please. I'll continue to bang that drum to no avail I'm sure.

Free throw parades suck.
Was thinking similar myself last night. MSU started fouling with 2 minutes left (because they still had fouls to give before the bonus) and I said 'well there goes my next half hour'.

Strange that they would get their noses out of joint given Zach Edey was a walking swinging elbow for several years and was maybe called for two offensive fouls in four years at Purdue . . .
Not to mention TKR picks should be a foul every time. Either a knee sticking out or he sticks is rear end out to knock the guards off

Can't wait to see F###ing Fran losing in first round of NIT. Just saying.

They quit calling those fouls after the early part of the season. Late in our game last night Mara was setting a screen on Boswell and literally never stopped moving. It wasn't a hard screen but as Boswell cut around him he just shuffling along with him. To top it of Boz got called for a foul on that play

Checked out Fran just isn’t a lot of fun to watch. It’s boring to know he’s not going to go nuclear during a game.

This Iowa team is not good and they are currently beating Rutgers at Rutgers. That loss is probably our worst loss outside of USC at home. Can't believe we lost to them .
