So, his name is Tre Singleton. Coming into our FIRST Northwestern game, he was 5/31 on the season from 3. He was 0 for his last 19 attempts.

In that game against Illinois, he went 0/4 from 3.

In this Purdue game he went 0/2 from 3. Awful help defense at the end, and the turnover.

After this Purdue game, he is now 9/54 on the season from 3.
This is NOT me making any opinionated statements about whether Ty Rodgers may shoot threes… but IF he did shoot 54 threes in a season, I’d honestly feel okay about him making at least 9.

However, rather not have it… as it’s a terrible percentage and hurts your team.

Purdue really is a mediocre basketball team. Theres really no excuse to lose to them in the BTT if thats the matchup

I hope USC can remain a Q1? They’re 63 and need it to remain top 75.

They just lost by 21 to UW… have UCLA coming up.

Hopefully they win at least one in the BTT.

Northwestern blew a golden opportunity to make sure Illinois is the #4 seed in the Big Tourney. Under 3 minutes to go Martinell was wide open from 6 ft in front of the basket he shot it and missed when he could have taken a dribble and dunked it. With under a minute to go Singleton threw a sloppy out of reach bounce pass inside and it went out of bounds. [My question is why your best player [[Martinelli] isn't handling the ball] Purdue hasn't been able to handle him all night-COACHING! Next possession for Purdue they missed the shot, Singleton got the rebound and threw it too far ahead of Reed and out of bounds again. They led for 95% of the game making play after play and choked once again in the final minutes. It would have made a big difference who the Illini might play in the 2nd round of the Big Tourney-Wisconsin. That could still happen if Wisconsin upsets Purdue in West Lafayette

So not quite sure where to put this, but last nights games got me thinking who does more with less between Collins and Gard?

Collins has taken Northwestern, who had previously never been to the NCAAT, to 3, and although he’s gotten the occasional top 100ish kid (Vic Law I think was in that range) he’s mostly done it with 3 star misfit toy type players like Boo Bouie and Nick Martinelli and he runs enough good sets and or schemes enough defensively to junk up the game and keep them competitive, even this year like when they had a 16 point lead on Michigan before essentially running out of gas or last night against Purdue. In fact he usually gives Painter’s team fits.

And Wisconsin always feels like on the verge of circling the drain, but then Gard scoops up another guard off of the transfer portal scrap heap and puts out a competitive squad. Our hit rate in the portal has been pretty good, but Storr, Tonje and Boyd is a pretty incredible run of transfer lead guards no one else really wanted.

I think both are pretty dug in at this point, but would be interesting to see what either could do at an Indiana or Ohio state type program that brings in more talented players. And I don’t know that anyone could do much better than those 2 have at their respective schools (I know Bo got Wisconsin to 2 FFs but that was a different era and it just doesn’t seem like Wisconsin throws a lot of resources behind basketball now based on who they bring in from HS recruiting and the portal).

Big 12 to debut LED/glass court for conference tournament:

Do we have to infuse technology into every single thing now? Rough estimates are $2-5 million spent on this.
If we are looking to do something funky, have the Sprint Center lit like the ballroom in the Battle 4 Atlantis.

I also don't get it. Not playing on hardwood seems like it changes the dynamic?

I don't even consider myself that old, but basketball is meant to be played on a hardwood court! come on!

Not always true-my high school had one of those 1970s style plastic tartan style court until the mid 2000s.

I don’t think I had real skin on my knees for two years from diving on that stuff…..

Yep, it really was a great week for us so far, and I am greedily hoping for more! At this point, I would argue this is our dream scenario:

(A) Jump to the first #2 seed so we can theoretically get UConn (the presumed last #1) in our region.
(B) Get a First Weekend location in St. Louis, which would be secured by accomplishing (A). This one even more specifically involves our fellow prospective #2 seeds, #3 seeds and #4 seeds losing so no one can pass us, too.
(C) Slide up from the #4 seed to the #3 seed in the BTT, allowing us to avoid Michigan until the brackets are likely finalized while still getting two chances at Quad 1 or even Quad 1A wins.

For those to happen, we need the following results this week. Ones that have already happened are in green or red depending on if they went our way or not. Numbers below are current Bracket Matrix seeds in our "general seeding neighborhood" to give context for why we would prefer a certain result. Needless to say, some are much more realistic than others, lol...
Update after last night:

Monday, March 2
#3 Iowa State loses at #1 Arizona (ISU is currently the top #3 seed and a real threat to move up)

Tuesday, March 3
#2 Florida loses vs. Mississippi State (this was never likely, lol)
#2 Illinois wins vs. Oregon
#3 Nebraska loses at UCLA
(an Iowa win plus Illini win on Sunday now gets us the #3 seed in the BTT, plus Huskers are St. Louis competition)
#3 Texas Tech loses vs. TCU (TTU probably wouldn't have passed us, but you never know!)
#4 Kansas loses at Arizona State (this was REALLY helpful, as they were creeping up and could prefer St. Louis)
#4 Alabama loses at Georgia
#4 Virginia loses vs. Wake Forest (not that big of a deal, as UVA isn't too close to getting above the #4 line)

Wednesday, March 4
#2 Houston loses vs. Baylor
#3 Purdue loses at Northwestern

Thursday, March 5
#2 Michigan State loses vs. Rutgers (lol)

Friday, March 6
N/A

Saturday, March 7
#1 UConn wins at Marquette (we want them to remain a #1 seed)
#2 Florida loses at Kentucky (this one is HUGE if we have any hope of being the first #2)
#2 Houston loses vs. Oklahoma State
#3 Iowa State loses to Arizona State (keep that train rollin', ASU!!)
#3 Purdue loses vs. Wisconsin
#3 Texas Tech loses at BYU (this is less important after they already lost to ASU)
#4 Kansas loses to Kansas State
#4 Alabama loses vs. Auburn
#4 Virginia loses to Virginia Tech

Sunday, March 8
#1 Michigan wins vs. #2 Michigan State (assuming MSU beats Rutgers, this is huge to keep them definitively below us)
#2 Illinois wins at Maryland
#3 Nebraska loses vs. Iowa (this is the final result that gets us out of the #4 seed in the BTT, given Nebraska's earlier loss to UCLA)

Probably will not see much movement until Saturday, but then prepare yourselves for a roller coaster of a weekend. With that said, I will be keeping my eye on that Rutgers/MSU game and maintaining a fool's hope that the Scarlet Knights can shock the world!!

I’m here to predict a Rutgers upset win tonight to ruin MSU senior night. One can dream.

I read somewhere the players today were complaining of the feel and traction. If the surface isn’t somehow carefully designed to mimic hardwood then this is an even dumber thing than I thought.

Maybe they will project an image of hardwood ;)
Can’t wait until there are stoppages for court malfunctions. Or someone hacking the court to move the 3 point line back a bit for the opposing team.
