Yeah, maybe it's part of this HUGE conspiracy against the Illini.
I mean, I hear this dismissal a lot on here. How much evidence do you need that IL continues to be viewed as an afterthought by many in the media and influential groups in the college basketball world? Obviously, ESPN is a network that consistently avoids situations that they somehow feel they are touching on some self - perceived sensitive topic. TJ just had the best game in the 27 year history of the tournament and they didn't even mention the score of the game? But had no issue featuring Chuckie Hepburn repeatedly in the highlights of the Purdue game?

Look, I'm not trying to be argumentative or repetitive. I was merely pointing out ESPN as the trash network that it is. I really don't care too much that they don't care enough to talk much about the Illini because I only watch their network when I have to. But, I would venture to say the majority of Illini fans agree that our program continues to struggle for recognition as a top program. I mean it's been that way forever. Doesn't really matter one way or the other. Just annoying as a fan of the program.

Just a brief sidenote regarding Akron. They lost their last two games of the regular season to fall out of 1st place to 2nd in their conference. I believe Akron was in first most of the season. But it would take too much work to verify that.

I honestly don't care whether ESPN covers the program or not, especially since the B1G doesn't have a media rights deal with them anymore. I'm sure at least part of the reason they covered Purdue was due to both them and Houston losing as 1 seeds in their conference tournaments, as I think there have been something like 19 1 seeds in conference tournaments that have lost this March. I did see the Illini at least get acknowledged on the bottom line among their top news stories.

Scary. I rewatched and didn’t see anything glaring, but I tend to be a little squeamish looking too intensely. Tough on the players. Hope he is ok

Bruce Pearl looks like the quintessential mafia Captain who has a string of bodies in various locations. Another of many reasons root against.

If we were camping and had only one sleeping bag, and had to share that sleeping bag with Pearl or a rattlesnake....I would choose the rattlesnake....every time

A-10 final is a exactly what you would expect a game to be where it’s win or no NCAA. Either team steals a bid. It’s low scoring, physical, and to be honest pretty ugly basketball.

It's stuff like that where the selection committee will absolutely look to move teams around a little bit. Gotta have those extra backstories to draw viewers. It was like back in 2011 or so when Illinois played Lon and UNLV in a 8-9 game.
I guess I am one who thinks it is a silly practice to get these "narrative" matchups. From a national perspective, I can't see it adding viewers who weren't already going to watch game, and the home team fans were going to watch the game regardless of matchup.
