The line play lost this game for the Illini. Experience O-line but it’s not physical. The front 7 of the D, aside from Jacas, simply not enough dudes there. The transfers we got from the Badgers have not been difference makers.

I know people want to blame Henry and compare the current D to say 2022, but 2022 had NFL talent. We don’t have that level of talent anymore. We got a good QB, and experience that isn’t that talented. 8-4 is about the most you could expect I think
I have to admit during that game I was hoping we'd get some of their current DL transferring in for next year lol. It would be a big upgrade.

Even if you only pin 14 points on the defense- Indiana they scored 7, Washington they scored 13, Oregon 7, OSU 0, Iowa 0, Michigan 10, Maryland 10.

It was flat out inexcusable to give up 14 points to that atrocious Wisconsin offense.
Tone for game was pretty much set when Wisconsin marched the ball slowly and methodically to the endzone. Basically ramming it down our throats on their first drive of the game.

Agree 100%. Think our skilled/speed players can compete. But we get pushed around on both sides of the ball. Against tOSU and IU it was really ugly. Until we get the line figured out we won’t be able to compete at the next level

I’m going to use this comment to pivot to something bigger.

This view right here is what separates Illinois fandom from UW (Washington).

Out here they don’t quit going to games. They keep showing up and DEMANDING that the program stop bleeding and get right Or They Will Not Accept It.

I grew up an Illini and will die one. But living among the Huskies has shown me what real fandom does. They light up the call shows and they fill up social media but above all they ATTEND AND DEMAND success. Or else.

Sorry that’s aimed at you personally, you just happened to be the first one saying this.

Nah, miss me with your capitals for emphasis and assumptions about my fandom.

My !!! was sitting there in the rain and cold watching Northwestern’s Andrew Marty look like Cam Newton in 2019. Stayed after the final whistle. What’s changed here is the program - and college revenue sports writ large - becoming a money grab. If they’re going to forego at the minimum the appearance of the romanticism of amateurism then I’m absolutely justified to say that I don’t want to keep throwing my money at a program that refuses to steward its resources appropriately.

I’m still gonna be there, but I’m definitely allowed to say it’s hard to want to pony up when we’ve had years of those clowns in particular with no real change. Washington fans be damned, dude, don’t lump me in with a bunch of bandwagoners just because I’m hesitant to part with my hard-earned cash over an increasingly-stubborn program.

Now we pivot from an observation about Washington fan passion on the Wisconsin thread, landing in College Sports thread territory.

You make an important point. The entities monetizing college sports need the passionate fans of each university. They’re counting on our deeply engrained dedication, driven by memories of life-changing experiences in our youth. This loyalty is the most valuable part of what’s being sold. Maybe it should be re-earned in the pro era?

Don’t let anyone make you feel guilty for now expecting professional results. Keep in mind what’s happening behind the “college sports” curtain. We’re not in Kansas anymore.

It felt like Lowery & Curt Neal had impact early in the season and never made much noise since

That game may have very well been one of the worst games I have ever been to. We had so much momentum going into it, but then the terrible weather, horrible attendance, and lackluster play made it absolutely horrific.

Yeah guys, we’re competing with teams and fan bases who show up no matter what, win or lose. Instead of doing the same, we should withhold support until Illinois football is winning even more than 7-10 games each year. That’ll attract recruits.

The difference between college and pro sports is the draft. In pro sports, you can withhold support and stop attending games, but the players are still forced to play for your team.

In college sports, players get to choose what team they play for and if the money is similar they’ll choose a program that has fans in the stands. So if your goal is to win more games, withholding support is literally the absolute worst choice you could make. But carry on.

After a couple days to think about it, I think the offense (blocking and some calling) is actually a bigger concern than the defense.

Defense has had issues all year. Has had some bad injuries to deal with.

But pretty bad Special Teams has put them in tough positions. And we’ve had some quick three and outs which has kept them from getting a breather.

The offense should have put more than 10 pts on the board against that Wisconsin team. Duke exposed our OLine early in this season. And then Indiana destroyed it. We put some band aids on it and got through some games but it’s a problem.

We have one of the best QB this program has ever had, and we have enough experience and talent at the skill positions.

The offense has bailed the D out enough under Henry. Don't give up a 16 play Td drive to the worst offense in the league. Don't let a 80 year run happen. After a sudden change man up and keep them to a FG instead of a TD. The D never mans up and causes any havoc at all.

A much bigger difference is the lack of salary caps, ensuring revenue will be the dominant driver of success, regardless of attendance.

What’s your point man? I didn’t say you didn’t, I just don’t take well to you assuming I’m some soft fan because I demand accountability and refuse to blindly throw money away.

The thing I love about this post is that reading it you'd think Washington football had been through some really hard times. Then you look up their program and see that they've won 10+ games 5 times in the last 10 seasons and their best "woe is me" argument is that they had 5 bad seasons from 2003-2008, and then turned things around and have been more or less consistently good since then.

I think there's two important distinctions:

- If you are a donor, you have the right to expect the university is going to spend your money wisely and in the general direction desired by all donors. Unless you are Larry Gies, then you get to decide how your money gets used. Results may be expected, but as always, not guaranteed.

- If you are a season ticket holder you have the right for entrance into the game and to enjoy the atmosphere, the experience and the game. Again, results may be expected, but again aren't guaranteed.

In either scenario, you can take your ball and go home if you're not getting what you expected.
