Wisconsin 69, Illinois 60 POSTGAME

You're saying these guys are our FRIENDS????

I'm not saying that at all. I just don't understand how publicly saying how terrible the refs are at their jobs actually helps us get more favorable officiating.

Happ was setting moving screens all night. If his name was Maverick Morgan he fouls out in the first half. All went downhill from there. I really hate to complain about the refs but that was awful.

For sure. He needs to lose his mind in the postgame.

And Nunn showed a great deal of restraint by not kicking TV Ted in the face when was showing off on that call. Sticking his finger in Nunn's crotch while he's pointing. What a bunch of BS.

The officiating absolutely did not cost IL the game tonight. Another inexcusable scoring drought did, but Valentine is everything that's wrong with college officiating. These refs that have been around forever try to make the games about them. Just like that call you referenced. I almost can't even stand watching college basketball games anymore because they're so miserably officiated.

I'm absolutely amazed and proud of our team in the amount of restraint they show, and how little they complain to the refs. It's Groce's job to get the point across to refs, and he absolutely should have got himself teed up.

You're right. They really show a lot of poise in those situations. And JG absolutely should have got teed if he had to chase somebody down to do it.

They review the call that goes our way (and luckily it stood), but don't review the call on Wisconsin. Nunn was not touching the ball when he slid out of bounds. May not have made a difference but we were within 5(??) when that happened.

Either way, a long scoring drought with TOs and little resistance on the opposite end turned this game around.

Anyone remember Bob Blackman going off on the refs on his Sunday morning tv show after the Michigan game in '74? Was hilarious.

There are times when it might be worth it just as a show of support to your guys. I'd have thought about after that bad block call fouled out Mav.

Groce couldn't have seen that like we did. I think I saw him ask Valentine if he was sure. That's about all he could do. Of course Groce could get a T anytime he wanted by using the magic words or whatever. I do not buy into the notion that that does anything more than give the opposition more points and piss off the refs/league for the future, when lesser reactions drawing a T could cost you another game. Vindictive bastards don't forget.

...with better access to statistics better than I run the numbers on the points off of fouls? My gut reaction--I didn't get to actually watch the game other than on a game tracker--is that the difference overall in the final score was made in points from free throws. Take the free throw points out and what's the score?

We were outscored 26 to 7 from the FF line. Wiscy shot 33 to our 10.

I agree it may not get us "favorable" calls, but let's be honest, can you look at a single game where we've gotten "favorable" calls? How can it get worse? Look at our previous loss, Northwestern and the phantom whistle followed by the no whistle.

Happ should have been out of the game long before Mav. We got up 13 and they made sure to give any and every whistle to the home team, it's that simple.

What good does it do after the game? I'd like for once to see him do something during the game itself, maybe it might just fire up his team or, Lord forbid, get a few calls to go our way. I never see it happen.

Have to agree 100%. We were up 13, I believe. A good coach has to do something to change the 30-4 run that Wisky went on (refs or no refs). Good coaches occasionally get T-ed up or even tossed. We all know where nice guys finish.

The Purdue game earlier this year. The calls did go our way. We won. Purdue got frustrated. They couldn't execute. We shot great, but the officials had a huge effect on us winning the Purdue game.

We probably didn't deserve to win that game because of the second-half drought, but Boroski and TV Teddy were prepared to do whatever it took to steal that game from us.

Maybe I'm crazy, but it terms of building trust in a coach, having our backs with the refs always mattered to me when I was a (crappy, high school) player.

Uncle Bob's Comedy Hour! What an awesome show that was! "Well, he's a fine young man..."

Did your cable go out the last 10 minutes of the game? If not, go back and watch them. If you still don't understand, I'm not sure what to tell you.

Again, not an actual response as to what was viewed as, "poor execution."

If I had the way (I didn't DVR this game) so I can't go back and watch the last 10 minutes, but I'd be curious how many whistles were blown against us down the stretch that really didn't allow for the offense to flow at all.
