Softer than a baby’s butt. May win their first game in the tournament but don’t expect much after that. Per usual with Fighting Illini basketball. Gonna be interesting what Underwood says at the post game conference

Tough game and a tough matchup for us. The good news is we likely won’t see a better pair of guards before the second weekend.

That said, loss is due to the following:
1. I think I saw after we pushed it out to 28-13 we were something like plus 7 or 8 on rebounds. We wound up getting outrebounded for the game and only got 6 of our misses back. That can’t happen against a team rated 200+ in defensive rebound rate.
2. I understand the emotions, but Kylan absolutely cannot pick up 2 fouls in the first minute. They have 2 guards who can go off and we lost the last time because we didn’t have anyone to stop them. Kylan sitting at the 19 minute mark virtually guaranteed one or both would get comfortable.

Oh and the refs were atrocious the last 10 minutes and OT. All Boyd or Blackwell had to do was flail and they got a whistle. We drove to the paint just as hard as they did, absorbed just as much contact as they did, and didn’t get the same whistle because we didn’t flail. With the way they were officiating Boyd and Blackwell, Adrejs layup to give us the lead in the last minute of regulation should have been an and one. And of course the phantom foul for Blackwell in the last minute of OT.

It’s easy to forget but we have closed out our fair share of games too. But my goodness, we just can’t seem to hit a free throw or get a block out when we need it in these losses, it’s just excruciating.

Don’t love it but it is what it is. If team regains their shooting stroke and finds their fight on the glass we could go on a run. We could also lose in the round of 32. We will see and we will see who we draw. A lot of it will come down to the matchup.

If we get bounced in the first round, does Brad get bounced?
Yeah, I know he gets a big payout, but I wouldn't miss him.
I'm tired of this "built for March" crap.
The March is always next year not this one.

Here we go again …

9-31 from 3 … Yet we just KEEP CHUCKING …

Davis and Mirk the ONLY guys to make more than one three …

We can’t guard anyone … Give up 70 to these Wisco guards … Bam lockdown defender ??? GMAFB … Horrible !!!!!

THEY HAVE TWO GUYS and we let them TORCH US !!!!!! AGAIN !!!!!! NO ADJUSTMENTS from Game 1 !!!!!!!!!

OUTREBOUNDED by these dudes ?????? CANNOT HAPPEN !!!!

I’ll let the tourney play out … And I hope we absolutely kill it but IMO it’s Second weekend or there needs to be serious discussions about the future and whether that includes Brad or not … 1 for 9 on second weekends just simply doesn’t cut it at this program …

This end of season/down the stretch performance has been flat out UNACCEPTABLE !!!!!!!!
Let’s see if this comment gets the 0440 treatment.. we never chuck threes!

Blackwell and Boyd with 69 of their points. We just don’t have players that can stop athletic guards… a problem most of the season
Not just this season. It’s been common for years now and unable to stop high ball screens. Defender sags off and plays to get picked on purpose and then everything breaks down. Over and over again. When Z isn’t in the game there is no resistance.

I’ve tried very hard not to “blame” Underwood, but at what point do we call this trend concerning, at the least? Giving up huge leads, having 1 or 2 guys beat you, our guys looking out of sorts when we get down, unable to start or finish strong… etc…

It is very odd
Plain and simple he's been an extremely good recruiter, but he just isn't a good in-game coach especially in the late game. Way too stubborn for his own good. Absolutely inexplicable his coaching decision to play Tomi over Z that whole overtime. This is yet another season where his late game substitutions and subs lose us a game. This is not a single game issue, it's been going on for seasons.

Just infuriating stuff. Infuriating game.

Brads post game will use the following keywords:
- toughness
- intensity
- elite
- effort

Same crap different day, but smells the same
Need a new coach

I have tried not to blame the supporters for being ignorant. But by every coaches standard, Underwood is one of the best in the business.

So I need to put it to you and please answer right away:

Who would you hire (today)? How much better will they perform over the next 7 years (meaning number of B1G regular season titles, number of B1G tourney wins and number of final 4 appearances) when compared to the last 7 years.

And if you can't name the coach and explain how they will be able to accomplish achievement materially better than Brad, then plase shut up.

The turning point seemed to be the UCLA game.

1. Wagler gets injured, and has only shot 6-27 from 3pt range since then.
2. Blowing a huge lead is bad for the confidence

A reporter needs to grow some balls and ask Brad why he doesn’t change his defensive strategy and why he lets a team with two good players always have the ball and always take the shot and never switch up your defense. And then a follow up would be to the question you asked last week of “hey circling back about you choking away leads….care to respond?” Pathetic Amy way you slice it

15 point lead in the first half....blown.
15 point lead in the second half.....blown.

Same old song and dance.
Chucking threes inspite of andre and Mirk playing well inside just is really really annoying.

Plus, i hate to complain and blame refs but Ben getting tackled and no call was crap and the multiple phantom calls that put boyd and blackwell to the line just takes the life out of me and our team. Its really sad and it got to the point the announcers didnt even want to talk about ut anymore after multiple bs calls on our end of the floor but not at alll for us

We blew it yet again, but we CAN'T disregard the absolutely ATROCIOUS calls against us. A lot of times, the referee excuse gets canceled out by the refs also making horrible calls on the other team, but that absolutely did NOT happen today! It is BULLSH**!!!

Also, I love Underwood, but if he doesn't GO THE HELL OFF on these refs in the post-game, to me that will explain EXACTLY why we blow so many big 2nd half leads and let the other team force overtime and then kill us in overtime. Why? Because if he just does his usual soft-spoken post-game presser after that game had WAY too many atrocious calls against us, that'll tell me he doesn't care enough, and when the coach doesn't care enough, that trickles down to the players. He NEEDS to go off to light a fire under this sleepy-@$$ team and get them motivated. Otherwise, it'll be yet another insanely talented, national championship-level Brad Underwood team that gets bounced on the Round of 32.

So he is who we all thought Bill Self was?

They couldn't buy a three. So what did we do? Stayed in our weak !!! man to man and let the only two players that could beat us continually drive to the hoop with no resistance. Hold just one of them to under 20 and we win in regulation by 15. Meanwhile, offensively, we had guys like AS and Z firing up threes early in the clock. Real efficient! We're number one!

No switch to zone with Z in the game to try to slow them down while they couldn't buy a bucket. The worst coaching in a season I have seen in a long long time.

I think that is our main problem. We’ve got two 7 footers and they both would rather shoot threes. Sometimes you just need to get underneath and rebpund! Let the guards shoot. If you aren’t willing to rebound get someone who will. I love this team and they are fun to watch no doubt but it’s crunch time now!
"Fun to watch?" You must enjoy pain. Losing after being up 15 TWICE is not my idea of fun.

The issue is obviously coaching. Yay we have the most regular season wins in the last 7 years. We’ve outperformed our March seed ONCE in that time. We’ve lost in the first game of the big ten tournament at least twice in that time. We lost in the second round of the tournament with two all Americans on the team during that time. It’s so obvious that coaching is the problem but it’s not going to change.
