We needed to stop one of their guards and we didn’t even come close to doing that. The majority of their scoring comes from 2 players, terrible game plan

honest question, who do you trust?

i like the idea of whoever said get the ball to mirk late, but he wouldn't be able to get his shot off the dribble, i don't think.

Watching the lack of movement when shots went up today reminded me that so much of our rebounding advantage has been pure height. Lots of obvious shot trajectories while staring (that players could see, not just obvious to TV audience)

If we actually ran offense, maybe we'd get some calls. I'm tired of ball screen isolation with guys standing around over and over.
But obviously that’s all underwood knows. When they have the mic in the huddle when was the last time you heard Brad say anything worth while?

Plain and simple he's been an extremely good recruiter, but he just isn't a good in-game coach especially in the late game. Way too stubborn for his own good. Absolutely inexplicable his coaching decision to play Tomi over Z that whole overtime. This is yet another season where his late game substitutions and subs lose us a game. This is not a single game issue, it's been going on for seasons.

Just infuriating stuff. Infuriating game.
Are you a Cubs and Bears fan as well?

I left Chicago years ago. This "blame the coach (particularly one that has won 2 B1G Tourneys and one regular season title in 7 years)" who is in the top 2 in B1G wins over the past 7 years lacks common sense.

Yet after every big loss, that Illinois loser mentality comes out and "we need to fire, Brad, Bruce, Lon Kruger, Lou Henson, Gene Bartow, Harv Schmidt (why not Jon Groce - I don't get it) and every Cub Manager and Bears Coach (including Mike Ditka) that ever lived. Less I forget, we have needed to fire every Illini football head coach (including the current one) going all the way back to Pete Elliott.

It gets tiremsome to read and borders on the ridiculous. Go watch some other team. Until this community stands by the sports programs through good times and bad, we are never going to be consistent winners in any sport.

Let me explain something to you. If you think there is someone out there that could accomplish what Brad Underwood has accomplished after taking over a program that had been run completely into the ground, you are in the minority.

Was today's performance bad? It sure was, but given the rebounding and the FT shooting (had we made 1 more regulation FT we win) that is on the players, not the coaches, Then postgame to turn around and start claiming our coach is "only" a good recuiter (who leads the B1G in transfers in and out) is more than just a modest overreaction.

I will gladly take the last 7 years of consistency. You know why? I have seen the alternative.

I’ll let the tourney play out … And I hope we absolutely kill it but IMO it’s Second weekend or there needs to be serious discussions about the future and whether that includes Brad or not …
The future doesn't include Brad because we're going to get Tyler in a few years right? The ol Stephen Pearl method.

Back to chucking 3s.
Brad should look in the mirror. The offensive issues in crunch time are about more than just missed 3's. We don't do anything to make life easier on ourselves. Can we set a hard pick for once instead of running pick and pop for the millionth time? How about adjusting pace and recognizing when Stojakovic actually has a good matchup doing his thing driving to the hoop? Let Tomi work inside more to build his confidence back up instead of parking him in the corner?

The supposed parking lot at pizza hut just seems like a joke with the way we play makes me wonder who Brad sent in his place. Because if his teams are any indication like give me a minute so I can call Kofi even though hes playing overseas and see when hes available because were softer then butter
I actually think it’s more of a recruiting/roster building problem than a coaching mentality problem. There’s only so much toughness a coach can instill in his guys.

I’ve said this before, but it feels like we’ve gone with an Iowa (Fran era) on steroids philosophy the past few years. We go for skilled players and figure we can teach them to guard good enough. That has won us a lot of games but leaves us vulnerable against athleticism and toughness and if we don’t make shots. And right now we aren’t making shots and better pray we don’t draw a tough athletic team as a 15 or a 7.

And I’ve said this before too…I don’t think it’s a good look to go all in on offense when your son is the O Coordinator. In modern basketball you need to score, sure, but we’ve got some flaws that are the direct result of going all in on players designed to make Tyler’s offense look good.

Id like to see us with a little more roster balance and slide a few more athletes in alongside the skilled basketball players. I realize Ty got hurt but not sure if he would have cracked the rotation or not. But it feels like we are missing a Trent, DaMonte, shoot even a Morez type dog out there who can just beat people offensively and defensively with their athleticism.

ole pru's worthless thoughts regarding life as an Illini fan in March Madness................

It's very concerning to watch us play stellar team basketball with big runs to get a double digit lead ,then give it right back going away from what got us the big lead........ucla , wisky twice and 3-4 other games with us losing a game we had command of.........

the terrible foul called on Dre should concern ALL college BB fans.......ZERO CONTACT shown numerous times on replay........there are so many refs who are NOT qualified to do the job adequately to provide a fair contest for all concerned......

showboating used to be looked down on in the past .......now adulation and praise flows freely for cocky m'f**s like boyd and blackwell..........I will NEVER root for scUM but a finely tuned elbow to boyd's grill would be so special especially with the owner of that elbow raising his arms like boyd did all game long..................

btw, I think Lendeborg is the weakest choice as B$G POTY in my recent memory....no doubt a good player but he wouldn't have been my choice for that award..............JMHO...................

Another game with inept refs having a terrible performance..............it really really was...............
Mostly agree Pru, but ref bashing late in the game is no excuse when the players who blew a 15 pt head 15 minutes ago should not be in a position where one bad ref call
loses the game for us.

Never seen an all American level player with such a weak whistle

Then Blackwell gets a call where he’s not touched on an airball step back fadeaway lol
I'm never one to point my finger at the officials - But I thnk Blackwell got more than one phantom call today.

Then why did Boyd get so many calls bc that iso and ball screen iso is basically all they ran for last 15 mins?

The reason Boyd and Blackwell get foul calls is that they are quicker than Illinois, and quicker guys get calls when they go up against bigger slower lesser athletic players.

Wagler plays in slow motion a lot on his drives. He’s not exploding by guys and therefore isn’t gonna get many touch calls especially at his size where he already has the advantage over smaller guys.

If you are quick, small, and fast, it’s easy to create foul contact. If you are taller and slower, it’s much harder

A 15 or 7?

Here we go again …

9-31 from 3 … Yet we just KEEP CHUCKING …

Davis and Mirk the ONLY guys to make more than one three …

We can’t guard anyone … Give up 70 to these Wisco guards … Bam lockdown defender ??? GMAFB … Horrible !!!!!

THEY HAVE TWO GUYS and we let them TORCH US !!!!!! AGAIN !!!!!! NO ADJUSTMENTS from Game 1 !!!!!!!!!

OUTREBOUNDED by these dudes ?????? CANNOT HAPPEN !!!!

I’ll let the tourney play out … And I hope we absolutely kill it but IMO it’s Second weekend or there needs to be serious discussions about the future and whether that includes Brad or not … 1 for 9 on second weekends just simply doesn’t cut it at this program …

This end of season/down the stretch performance has been flat out UNACCEPTABLE !!!!!!!!
So can we just let Brad go to ksu and we can bring self back for a couple of seasons if that were to happen.id truly believe a final 4 is possible with OA and self with the high low offense would be a thing of beauty.maybe im just harsh but would you be ok with that trade off?
