My opinion, he should’ve at least given it a go … Again that’s my opinion … As well as others both on here, in the program and around the program …

Stating he played most of the MSU game on this same sprained ankle is just a fact … It’s the exact same quote Brad just gave …
i think we can all agree that AS is extremely talented and a critical piece to this team reaching its ceiling. hope that he’s back to 100% as soon as possible

I guess the point is BECAUSE he played 80% of the MSU game, it hindered his ability to give it a go.

I'm also not sure he would've been of much help on a bum ankle, chasing Boyd around those screens.

Terrible take based on no information. You have no idea if it was possible to even attempt playing. Sometimes guys are just hurt and can’t go. Yes guys play through injuries a lot and a lot of times guys can’t. To question his toughness with nothing to base that on his ridiculously unfair to AS.
He had a sprained ankle and he warmed up before the game so we did have information, so not a terrible take. Terrible paying attention on your part though. Anyway you have no idea it wasn't possible to even attempt playing. Sometimes guys are hurt and can go. And you're right, guys play through injuries a lot and a lot of times guys can’t. My view is in a game like this against a good opponent knowing the circumstances we could have used minutes from him tonight. I have a right to express that view. I didn't question his toughness, I questioned his decision not to play.

You made a lot of assumptions my guy but I'm here to straighten out your assumptions.

Oh, I agree in general. It's the "we" part which is critical. Do we need to be better? Sure.

At the same time, a crowd many times is simply a reflection of the team they are cheering for and the circumstances playing out in front of them. And they're at the game. I'm not.
We have more Big 10 wins this decade than all the teams that have better home crowds than us.

Officiating in this league is a joke … It’s been AWFUL this season …

Not just for these last two games for us … Across the league …

I’d say we deserved to get makeup calls tonight. The problem is we played a team coming off a game where they get jobbed worse than us.

From a pure entertainment standpoint. I’m not sure why the league wouldn’t have wanted a banger Illinois versus Michigan title game. But hey, idk

So, somehow in his average of just over 6 minutes a game, this is all Petro’s fault that the team offense and defensive stats show what you’ve provided?

Other than a few games, Petro has played with mostly other guys who haven’t averaged as many minutes as he has, so the lineups weren’t conducive to high level or quality play.

Let’s not act like he has dragged the team’s performance down in significant play.

Most of his PT came against UTRGV, Southern and garbage time in other games.

In significant play this what Petro has done.

Alabama - 1st game - 12 minutes 3 points (1-1 3pointer), 1 reb, 1 assist, 1 to

UConn , 18 min 1-7 FG, 2 reb, 2 assist, 3 steals, 3 TO - not great, but most of our guys looked poorly most of that game.

Minnesota - 7 min, 2-4 fg, 4 pts, 3 rebounds

The numbers you posted aren’t great, but there is context to them.
Sigh... His individual offensive contribution is 0.891ppp on 27.9% usage. That's not "not great with context", that's horribly inefficient and a possession black hole. He is in the bottom 1% of all NCAA players in effective field goal percentage. He is in the bottom 1% of all NCAA players in turnover rate. He's in the bottom 1% in 3pt percentage, and the bottom 3% in 2pt percentage. He doesn't get to the free throw line, and he doesn’t rebound. But aside from that, his assist rate is excellent. So he's got that going for him.

I'm not sure why we must pretend he's been anything other than completely unplayable. He played a single good game this year against Minnesota. It was also the only game this season he played with any defensive effort and within the offense. That's it. He had many opportunities to earn minutes in game and in garbage time. For a bench player, you need to excel in those situations to get playing time and be part of the rotation. He has done the opposite.

At some point it's on you as a player to perform. And even when the shot isn't falling to show effort and intensity and play within the framework of the team. If you don't do that, you're simply not going to see the court. Period. So no, I'm not sure what additional context is needed here. It's not too dissimilar from last season where someone wanted us to play Carey Booth significant minutes to help our team. It's disregarding reality

Wisconsin had 9 fouls with 7 minutes to go and still had 9 with 1 minute to go for whatever reason we stopped attacking. Needed Tomi on the block a few more times. That was working in the 1st half. I sat right above the Krush and during a crucial part of the game I saw four people in a row on their phones. I pointed it out to my wife and she couldn’t believe it

somehow still kenpom 6 and torvik 5 even after tonight (assuming Gonzaga game doesn't really move the needle). defense took a big hit.

I'm not sure about this. Their IU game was way overblown. This is a foul:

In the meantime, our MSU game featured a bad call / missed call almost every possession in the first 3+ minutes of OT (and even going back to final minutes of regulation).

They earned this loss with their poor play and awful FT shooting, so I'm not making excuses.

But I'm really sick and tired of watching Keaton getting beat to death on every possession and rarely getting a call. Once again the B1G refuses to fix the officiating problem and let these games become rock fights.

Again, not why we lost but it's really frustrating to watch.

Oh, +1 on the comments about how pathetic the crowd is. MSU, Purdue, and Nebby fans have embarrased the once dominate Orange Krush.
Getting beat to death is a result of him taking it to the rim on every other chance....he gets physically attacked and that is what happens in the B1G...and it very likely won't change.

However, it seems he was getting a lot of calls earlier in the season that have not been called in the last half dozen games or so. The kid is a true star and he should be as protected as anyone else....but he is not.

In the post game, you could easily tell that the officiating is getting under Brad's skin. He is as good as any at not complaining publicly about officiating, but even he can only take so much incompetence and inconsistency. Consistency should be No. 1 among all the things the league should demand, but what comes down the pipe has never been at all consistent over the 70 years I have watched Illini basketball. Different guys call the same play differently...and that should never happen if they are trained well. It makes one wonder if they do receive any training (I know for a fact that they do)? And yet on they go, calling plays seemingly as the crowd demands. This could be improved immediately if anyone of the BTB wanted it to.

We had injuries and illness last season.
We have injuries and illness this season.
We will have injuries and illness next season.

Have we been ready? No
Will we be ready next season? Not unless Brad makes it a point to have prepared backups. Other teams make it work. He needs to pull his head out of the sand and make it a priority.

Edit: Winning when you are healthy is only half of the job.

It might be just me, but it seems we are falling into a habit of standing around and not moving while watching Keaton dribble and hopefully drive to the basket to take a shot or dish. Wisconsin players were constantly moving. Nebraska players also were moving and the ball was moving as well.

I also wish we had a variety of inbounds plays instead of just trying to lob it to Mirk or Tomi. It cost us tonight with at least one turnover

Wisconsin scored 23 points off Illini turnovers (Illini scored only 6 points on Wisc turnovers) and Wisconsin had 8 steals to Illini 0 steals. Wisconsin had 76 shots vs Illini 60. What happened to Illini nation leading vaunted offense and "improved Illini defense"? 3 losses likely ends Big Ten regular season championship hopes, especially if Michigan wins out.

No. Michigan still has to go to Mackey.

A crowd is supposed to create energy for the home team and rattle the visitor, not just reflect what is coming from the game. This isn’t like going to the movies. And part of the fun is supposed to be the interplay. As a fans you can influence the game. But not if you just sit back and wait for good things to happen.

The thing about the situation we are dealing with right now is even if Petro cannot give us positive minutes all the time he can give Keaton and Mirk some relief at running point. We have got by with Mirk taking over for a few games but tonight it was a definite disadvantage when we let him run the point. Sometimes you just have to concede somet things to keep your best players fresh for the finish. Just playing basically 6 players is a real gamble unless you're playing a really weak opponent.

I think once Boswell is back a lot of these points off turnovers for the other team will go down. We are especially susceptible right now with our quickest player and best defender out.
