100% Mirk turnovers were bad in that stretch. But he’s been pretty good at handling the ball all year - I don’t think quickness has much to do with it, one he literally just dribbled off his leg.

Now, in the few minutes Petro has gotten. Turnovers…

Mirk gets sped up at times or gassed and that’s when the turnovers happen …

However - he is GREAT as an ALTERNATIVE handler … Gives us a different look …

Petro is just not good … I’ve seen enough via practice and games … The whole Braden Smith comp is laughable … Idk what they were seeing in the pre season …

And just as a reminder, we had the privilege of playing the top scoring backcourt in the league without our 2 primary backcourt defenders on a short turn, an incredibly unlucky draw. Not saying we haven’t had our share of letdown losses during Underwood’s tenure or he is without blame for last night, but it’s not like the Penn State loss a few years back where we came out completely flat after being out partying at Kam’s the night before.

Bring back fart noise Brad … 🔥

That’s still by far my favorite Brad post game …

Petro would’ve only caused the turnover number to increase …

I do not disagree at all we needed another ball handler … I was on here all Summer saying we needed a Malachi Smith type … You have to have veteran ball handlers … Just have to …

Bam was the only proven handler we had coming in this year and he’s better when isn’t the only handler …

Petro arriving late … Lee & Wagler freshman … Now we all know what Wagler has become and we are thankful and blessed to have him be what he is … But going into the season, I wasn’t at all happy with the backcourt … Needed to bring in another veteran who could handle it …

When Brad is able to bring a Feliz, or good Curbelo off the bench … His teams have been very good … I know he thought that’d be Petro but anyone could see he wasn’t going to be a plus defensively and arriving late don’t help … I think multiple portal guards is #1 on my list for next year …

You know the landscape far better than I do. How many veteran guards like that were/are actually available?

We’re talking about wanting a veteran guard to come in and give us 3-4 minutes of run, in a game where we’re already down Boswell and another secondary handler in Andrej.

It just seems like such a small role to sell a fairly established guy on - but I guess the answer is a player like Justin Harmon?

I think Petro is capable and was and is a good player. However arriving late, being injured and not really having real shot in league play once healtht by playing only 37 minutes in mostly mop up duty it just seems a bit premature to say he is no good. He is our best option with Kylan out and we had the slowest line up i can ever recall last night when Kylan sat.

Yes … He’s lost defensively WAY too much … I want him to try and block shots but I think he had like 3 goaltending’s ??? Gotta be smart with it …
They called him for 3, however I'm not sure any of the 3 were actually a goaltend. The first one was 50/50- pretty much exact timing to when it hit glass. Difficult to tell. So fine, you live with that one. The 2nd was a clear bad call. 3rd hit glass then rim and was outside of the cylinder before Z touched. That one I can understand why it was called live, but I thought that by the rules it should've been overturned in review. Thought that's a clean play, no block, no goaltend. In any case, only that 3rd one was actually blocked after the ball hit glass.

His positioning though, yeah he was lost at multiple points in this one. He seemed confused about his defensive responsibility multiple times. Not a great game from him by any stretch

Feliz and Harmon are great examples … Those are the guys who are winners, warriors … You win a lot of games with those kinda guys … Petro is not that … And we knew that before he got here …

Plenty of those kinds of guys available … They’re EDGs … UConn always has em … Houston always has em although they’ve gone more freshman heavy lately … Wisconsin always has tough, proven, veteran guards …

And they’re CHEAPER than guys like Petro … We could’ve had 2 Malachi Smith, Harmon types for what Petro cost …

Just guys this year that I think would’ve been great:

Malachi Smith
Nick Boyd
Moe Odum
Bryce Lindsay
And I really like the Reynolds kid at Minnesota too
Lawrence at Nebraska has been fantastic

why the defensiveness? if you are a season ticket holder, especially if a long time season ticket holder, you have to have noticed the things we’re talking about over the years. would be interested to hear your perspective on the issue and any possible solutions
Any defensiveness you're seeing is how you are interpreting it.

As a whole, IMO, State Farm needs to get better. The Athletic Dept. needs to get with Krush and come up with some solutions. Get rid of the announcer trying to pump people up. I think it trains people to wait to be prompted. Is that not what the cheerleaders are for anyway?

My point is, as I have said many times, it's easy to criticize people who are actually at the game while you are sitting in the comfort of your home. It implies, "I would have been loud if I was there." Well, you weren't there. My preference would be for people to use terms like "we" and "us" when talking about the crowds at SFC. Collectively, we have to try to make SFC intimidating again. Collectively, we have to figure out what has seemed to go wrong. It's easy to call out Krush. Well, what can we do? What did we do wrong to get us to this point? The kids are there. They're at the games.

As I have already stated, too, a lot of times a crowd is simply a reflection of their team and the circumstances of the game.

To be SOMEWHAT fair, didn't we think Ty was gonna be one of those guys for us? Just another unfortunate thing about his injury.

He has not had enough to know. His league he came from is better than the B10. A lot of good players in that league. T, Z and Mirk were role players there. Mihailo hasnt played much since being healthy. I recall the same stuff about Podz. Mihailo has not had a real shot while healthy yet. Without Kykan we need him. No way can Mirk handle the ball as well as Mihailo, Come on.

I don’t disagree he hasnt been given a shot, but I don’t see practice.

And ball handling isn’t the only metric here.

Well, if those guys would truly be down with a smaller role here, then I’d agree a massive mistake. I remember us being in on Odum a bit too.

There were other issues there, but oddly enough, we had Jeremiah Williams committed here. That’s more of a player (I considered realistic) I had in mind.

I also really like reynolds too. He seems to just be tough and go out there and play. Same with Crocker-Johnson. Even Asuma too

I'm still unconvinced that Mihailo just forgot how to play basketball in a span of a few months. How did this guy just completely wreck the ABA to the tune of 15 pts 7 ast in 27 minutes per game? There either has to be some attitude stuff going on or he's just been too poor on the defensive side. The small sample size on offense is pretty bad too, but when has he been able to actually play enough to find some sort of rhythm? If you compile stats from the 3 games where he played more than 10 minutes he shot 6-13 (2-3 from three & 3-3 from the line) in those games with 11 assists to 6 turnovers.

I'm certainly not advocating more minutes now because we're about to get Boswell and Andrej back, but this thought that he just flat out sucks seems kind of far fetched to me given his proven track record in a league that regularly produces great college players.

that would be somethign...this version of ben we've seen last like 7 games is damn good

Since the slump ended (7 games ago), hes hit 50% or better from the 3 on 6 out of 7 games and shot 15/44 (44%) on threes......if he can keep that up, look out

But like Indy said, the improvement on defense, even before this stretch, has been staggering. Just completely bought in there
sorry all, typo in this previous post of mine and i cant edit......it was 15/34 on 3s

Wasn’t a bigger Moe Odum fan than me this offseason … True Point Guard …

We could’ve had Odum if we wanted him … Half of what Petro cost us … OA connection …

Averaging 17,3,6 and shooting 38% from 3 … Pretty decent …

Didn’t he play at the NAIA level before Evansville. Not sure how that translates
Believe he played three years at Huntington. Assuming none of the NAIA years count, but I stopped trying to keep track of eligibility a long time ago. Rules change too often.

Agreed! Think he could have slowed Fears down a bit on Saturday as well.

What slows Fears down is setting the f’ing tone with him …

Foul the 💩 out of him … I’m just waiting on a player/coach to figure that out …

Teams had him figured out when he was at LaLu … Get in his head … Set the tone …

Feliz, Trent, DMFW would’ve had him miserable …
