Another reason why being young < ‘getting old’ … we have insane talent on this team but they’re so raw we don’t even get to enjoy it. KJ will be a force in the NBA but we got 1 year of him in his “growing pains” phase.

My fear at the beginning of the year has been confirmed. We have talent but no experience. We only get a year of some of these players but it’s a painful year.

A coaching staff that is inept at handling a young, talented team is certainly making it worse as well.

Illini fans making excuses. The youth on this team is showing. Players have hit the wall especially the freshman. Good coaches are arrogant. Underwood is definitely arrogant and he has every right to be based on Illinois succes the previous 5 years. Ty Rodgers redshirting definitely created more issues. A selfish move on his part but it is what it is. They need one more win to be guaranteed a NCAA BID. This team is soft and will lose in the first round. THIS TEAM HAS DEFINITELY QUIT.

I think there will be pretty much all new faces next year. I just don't see anybody coming back given the ease of moving on and opportunity at big dollars (Tomi, Morez, DGL). Big question will be if it is players only, or extending into the (entire?) staff? Welcome to the great new NIL era. Puke

Not someone with “97 other agendas” -BU after PSU loss 2 years ago.

It’s relevant to this team now…but missing from BU.

Postgame presser tonight...

"We used to !!!! on the sidewalk in front or Arby's entrance at 2 am. Next day you'd just see about 10 turds lying in a row..... That's what I saw when I looked down the bench tonight, 10 turds in a row". -Brad Underwood....probably*

Underwood and staff tried to go the Calipari route with the roster this year when we have about 10 years of results showing that it does not work out well.
I thought Brad had turned a corner with last year team going older (in terms of roster building) but then he reverted back to the Mayer year roster construction. It's like he didn't learned.

I've been wondering how much of that was a conscious choice vs the result of relationships messed up over a couple years. Dainja and Coleman would have really helped this year. As would some experienced coaches.

Brad is slowly turning into Cal ... I am starting to see it more and more ...
I feel like Brad has been at the forefront of learning how to effectively use the portal. And that's good, because life is change, adapt or die, etc. But I think his pendulum essentially has swung too far that way. He has overcorrected for the portal era. Almost like he is just resigned to the fact that 80%+ of the team will transfer every year and is embracing it in the same way Cal embraced the one-and-done.

And the end result is no continuity, little or no upperclassman leadership, minimal team chemistry, etc.

Then add the fact that we essentially only have 2 real assistant coaches to run a team of freshmen and FNGs and... I guess we should have all seen this coming, in hindsight.

Beyond all the dumba$$ comments, we were never going to win this game with MJ out, Tomi hobbled, and the rest of the roster not at 100%. Like I said earlier, enjoy the game.
