Let's go International this morning - this is Smokes a rescued (by my sister) Blue Kelpie in Australia. Here he is sleeping in her sunroom overlooking the River Tamar in Tasmania.

I lost my best friend 2 weeks ago. It just seems like I've lost so many over the years...

Yes you have. As we all do in the course of a lifetime.

We watch sports in part to share in something with others... and to see who wins and loses the given contest of the day.

Some things we don’t get to choose - like the family we were born in to and the place we were born. And other things we do get to choose - like the people we decide to commune with and what we do with our lives once we reach adulthood.

We get to choose our friends. And friends can add to our lives in ways that no one else can. And as for where we are born... for most people that will determine for the rest of their lives the sports teams we bond with and that will levy so much sway over our thoughts and emotions down through our years.

Like any group of fans... we in Illini Nation form a family and community of our own. We come to this fandom and this community willingly and a shared desire for good times and success through our chosen sports identity.

We share in the Game of the Day on the Venue of Play – to watch whichever team our chosen Beloved happens to be playing that day and to see what will happen. And then we share the much Greater Game of Life... where the victories and losses cut much deeper and with greater significance than National Championships.

Rejoice in the life and times you’ve had with your friend. Look ahead with joy and anticipation that there are much greater things ahead for him, for you, and for all of us.

And as much as we love the Illini and the other sports loyalties we take on – the greatest victories will not be found here but still lie just ahead.

Don’t have a dog so no pics from me, unfortunately. But keep em coming!

loyalty has long been high up on my frequently visited sites list. I moved around too much as a kid to become much of a pro sports fan (except the 90s bulls, but pretty sure you were legally required to be a fan of you lived in the Chicago area that decade).

The Illini became my first truly favorite teams(s) and loyalty allowed me to keep that deep connection after graduating,

Thank you Dan and all you crazy fans for allowing me to keep that connection and obliging me crazy philosophizing on everything Illini.

In past years, I would say loyalty was particularly valuable when Illini sports were in the deep dark ages but the crazy people on these boards were still engaged. It’s great to be past those dark ages, and you crazy people are still here! :illinois:

Geez. Board is going to the dogs! Sorry couldn’t resist. BTW we love animals. Have 3 cats - one of which is a therapy animal - and have fostered over 20 families. Great to see all the love for the furry friends

Any Pizza Hut parking lot, any time you're ready.

Handle checks out. Thanks. That literally made me lol over morning coffee.

On one hand: sweet boy.

On the other hand: I sense he will eviscerate me if I flinch.

Love the slightly blurry focus, too. Right out of a Guy Ritchie British gangster film.

Thanks to all for posting your pets. Life's better with company.

I think the only crocs around are the ones on the feet. However Sharks are very plentiful and Smokes does not go swimming. River Tamar is an estuary that is also fed by freshwater so many varieties of Sharks.
