NBA Summer League - Illini Players

I looked through the player list and only found two Illini: Brandon Paul and Malcolm Hill. It looks like BP3 might be playing his way into a contract (linkbelow for the sceptics). Malcolm isn't getting a ton of playing time so far (< 10 min per game).

I'm a little surprised Egwu isn't on a roster somewhere.

Yes been stat checking the last few days. B Paul w 20 points yesterday on 6 made threes. I wish the Bulls would take a chance on him. Then again the Bulls would probably trade the three new building blocks (Lavine, Dunn, and Markannen) for him as well as sending cash and future draft picks.

I think Egwu is doing alright for himself in New Zealand. Last I heard, he'd put somebody's eye out (this was a while ago).

Literally. The guy ended up being okay and I think some light was made of it, but yeah, he literally poked somebody's eye out of its socket. The guy who it happened to had some funny quote about it; something to the effect of "things didn't look quite right," or something.

He clearly sees there's more to life than basketball.

May have already been mentioned on here but I noticed B.Cook on a roster in Ice Cube's 3v3 traveling project.

He seems to be a Lakers insider, but sounds like BP3 may get a contract with the Cavs. Other tweets implicate a possible two-way contract where he spends most of his time in the G-League with the Canton Charge. We shall see...

Happy for Paul, I was at Illinois while he was there, always struck me as having "NBA" athleticism. More than any player we have had since his departure really.

Brandon has left the Cavs summer league, and all the signs are pointing toward that he has signed a deal with the Mavs!!! So happy if this is true for Brandon, watching him these past 2 weeks has been impressive, guy has been the best player on the court in all the games he has been in.

So to clarify, he left the Cavaliers summer league team and signed a pro-deal with the Dallas Mavericks?

Played for Mavs last week, turns out he hasn't signed yet but is taking a break from basketball after so much play and travel recently

For those less informed on these issues, are summer teams just free agents, except for recently drafted rookies?

I guess I am surprised what BP3 did happens. I figured he had a contract with Cleveland, at least through training camp or until cut

They also renounced the rights to Jonathan Simmons today, so maybe they're looking at Brandon to help fill his role.

Woj reported it being a guaranteed deal, so I don't think he has to worry about being cut

Awesome for Brandon! He'll obviously get great coaching there. Hope he can make his mark on a winning team.

Congrats to BP3. Awesome illini, extremely talented athlete, great attitude, fun guy to follow. Has worked like crazy to get where he is and has as good a chance of developing into a legit NBA player with the spurs as w any other organization
