No it doesn't. Pretty sure TheKid101 was only pointing out the "can't" flavor in the nation. Do we have to learn to walk? Or can we come out of the gates running very soon(this draft class, this year)? Maybe, could happen, but we "can't" because of mfich and osu. Some of us have been waiting a long time for dominance and "can't" will get you thrown right out the door.....been there, dun that. I realize time is relative, but I'm pushing to the front of the line instead of waiting because we "can't" do it now.
Optimism really gets my gal. |

I believe we have the POTENTIAL to one day recruit with the big dogs, but for now we have to be realistic with where our program is at this point from a broader perspective. Again, welcome to the board!

you know all i am going to say we are 21 in rivals and i think 23 in espn. Who are we behind michigan and osu and for some reason penn state. I will take fourth in the big ten any day and turn that into something.

I was wondering the same thing. I don't get how they can come out of the gates, with a first year coach, and do this well given everything the school has gone through. Must be the school's rich football tradition that they are selling the kids on. I know that if I was a top recruit with everything that has happened would scare me off.

I guess Matt Harris had yet another great camp this weekend. His highlights are pretty impressive. Looks like he's a good route runner with pretty good speed. From what i have read, It would be nice to lock this kid up before the big names come calling. I feel like if he has a senior year blowout, that there will be some big guns after him.
Ryan: what do you know about Harris and does he like Illinois? Why did it take this long for him to get this kind of attention? Last edited by Juice; Jun 25, 2012 at 09:17 PM. |

I'm very happy with the class so far. After looking at Zooks classes and who signed and actually ended up playing or sticking around that in itself "recruiting ranking" is not all that it's cracked up to be. Dont get me wrong I like to see good talent but I would like to see them play. Hopefully all these kids will play well together if they do we should be in for a good ride. I'm praying they do because I'm the only orange and blue shirt walking around in Nebraska (except for my daughter got her stuff early) . GO ILLINI

I think all we have to do in the Illini v UM v OSU debate is look at this year. We were beat by UM for two of OUR top in state line prospects. They didn't even let us get a season under our new head coach in before they chose. That is what a good history and winning tradition and upward trend does for you.
BUT, I feel like we can get there just like everyone else. It will just take time. So this year, ThaKid, your optimism can be tough to take because we know there is a slim to none chance these guys flip and come back to us (slim is walking out the door currently) but in a few years? You may be absolutely right. Here's a question for you all though, lets say some of these guys do flip. LTT, or Bosch, or Ethan Pocic, decide after an 8-4 season they want to come home. Do we take them? They didn't want to be Illini off the bat and may cause some disruption. Do we not take them because of this? Or do we just say "kids are young and just don't know what they want right now" and let them come. What if we have a full class with all needs met by the time one flips? Some things to chew on. __________________ _|_ --X-X-(_)-X-X-- /...........|...........\ /.............|.............\ /...............|...............\ |

Just could read the teaser on the rivals article but we are in Finley's top 3. I'm guessing it's us, Ohio state, and who is the other? Michigan state?

I wish we would have locked up Finley at the same time we got a commitment from Gibbs. It seems like we have fallen from Finley's top choice to now being in his top 3, but maybe our coaching staff can pull off another upset and land Finley. |

it wouldn't surprise me if he didn't commit to us but then again it would shock me if he did commit....if he wants to help build a program thats us....if he wants to be part of tradition of winning then he could go elsewhere

if we pull off Finley a 4* OT this would be huge for correcting our depth and upgrading our talent level on the OL and also shows the country yea we are going to continue to bring in top talent

3 Star DB Blake McClain is set to make his decision tomorrow. Illinois is one of the 4 finalists.
