I love how bright that orange it. Really brightens the place up.

Just to clarify, the endzones will be with the slant Illinois not the zig zags that are shown on some of these other designs (which I prefer). Right? Why not do it now? "Fighting Illini" with the zig zags looks so much better.

They won't do it now bc they haven't "branded" us yet. If they chose the zigzags-which I hope they do- that could come later. Will have to see if the zigzags are an issue at the goal line, though, I'd think.

Well you could have a solid white line at the goal line and then the zig zag.

If you look at the fan mock-ups of the end zones with zigzags, there's a solid white line, and then the zigzags begin. (Solid white, blue zigzag, white zigzag, orange background). It wouldn't be hard to tell at all.

FWIW I think the state would not look so bad if they just had it as a darker or lighter contrast of green to the grass around it... That bright outline is too much for my taste. However, I like the brighter orange.

Would it be too much to ask the university to pick a logo and stick with it? Why are we now going with the Block I inside the state outline? This has to be the fourth or fifth logo that has been tried over the last twenty years.................

That's the plan. When they unveil the rebrand (be it next year or in a few years), they will have a consistent logo and color package.

I've tried to like the I with the state outline, but I just can't. I feel as though we are stealing or copying Indiana, and that should never be considered good. The previous Block I only design was fine and great. There could have been room for improvement though, but I just don't dig this design.

I would personally love the circle I logo. Regardless, just pick one logo and be done with it. There is currently no consistency which is the most important thing in branding. Last edited by idoc13; Aug 1, 2012 at 07:32 PM. |

Why do you say this? Do you have info, a hunch, something else?

New turf update! Photos taken this morning.
Not sure what's up with the tire track-esque marks along the 50, but they were still treating the turf this morning. Up next, the end zones need to be painted. ![]() ![]()

are those black stripes just heavy dumps of the rubber beads they use for toe drag indication? I'd hope that would get spread out in a hurry..
Also, don't know if anyone else has noted this yet, but the number font for the yardage makers is much different. A more modern stenciled look |

I hope it doesn't become our new logo. And I'm curious as to why they would replace the field, when they just did in it in 2008? That seems like a short time to me, but I don't know much about fields. But are these designs going to stay on the field for another 4 years then? And It's not just the football field though, don't forget about the subtle state outline on the Assembly Hall floor. We can do better than having to mimic Indiana's designs.

EDIT: If you look at the tractor sitting on the near sidelines you can see it has a giant brush on the bottom of it so I bet they asked it to stop so they could take the picture then it will continue brushing the tire treads into the turn. It looks like it had just finished doing the clean strip between the 2 black marks. And I noticed the yardage numbers too and think they look much better. |

love the new field! Although it will bug me that I will have to stare at an upside down state of Illinois from my seat location.

The endzones will almost assuredly be changed next year once we finish our rebranding with Nike.
