Our chances of landing D-Jax depend on his decision time frame. If he is going to decide in September, clearly we are the strongest. Too many uncertainties in KU (Barber) & no offer from UK yet. If he is going to wait till signing day, then the Barber / Harrison twins situation would likely have clarified and the decision will be a lot harder for him and our chances of landing him will be lesser. In any case, looks like ND is probably out.

Or, if Harrison twins end up at UK, and either Barber or Chris Jones end up at KU, our odds go way up.

That is correct. Of course, if he is going to wait to see Kentucky and Kansas play out, it also means that, right now, he is considering them at par or better relative to Illinois or at least wants to find out more.

Wow, the more I think of it, we would be a total complete mess.

I am very confident in the recruiting and closing abilities of Groce and staff until proven otherwise. New school type of staff that just seems to get it and how to relate to kids and those around them.
Any then in 2 years we would be wondering why we are again a bubble team on the outside looking in come March.

Agree, if this falls into place like it is looking like it will, we will be back quickly to worrying about what seed we are in the NCAAs, not if we are going to squeak in...

ND is still in the picture. DJ was on their campus this past weekend and was hanging out with their staff. They'll be in it till the end.

Top 100 Rivals C/PF.
6' 8"
From New Jersey

Amazing to see kids from around the country interested in this program. Whether we get him or not, I think it is a good sign.

Used to be a top 10 player as a FR/SO, dropped a bit in the rankings, completely rededicated himself to being an aggressive big man, and he is risen again in the rankings to where he is now. Seems like a more realistic ranking for him.

A good player for sure, but would not consider an immediate impact program changer like most top rated kids are. A very, very solid 4 star PF.

That is what I wonder as well. Is Illinois his favorite until he is the #1 target of UK and/or KU?

Just curious, what exactly goes on at an in-home visit? Does the family serve dinner? Do they watch game film? Did they watch football? Did they discuss DJack's offer and place in the system more in depth? Backgammon, charades, monopoly???

I've just always wondered that. From my perspective, it basically seems to me that DJack is getting serious about the relationship he has with Groce, and wanted him to meet the parents (even though I'm assuming he has already).

Also, for those wondering if Matthews did in fact have an offer:

I've wondered what goes on myself.

I agree he at least wants to find out more, or he'd be committed.

I enjoy Kramer's lengthy and detailed answers. We won't hear any details at this stage in the game because neither side will talk publically. Kramer is quoting Sturdy's lengthy response to the visit too. All he said was Good.

Not at all. As many have said, even if UK or Kansas offers, we still probably lead..

He says he has a Kansas offer, now the question is would they take a commitment. I know they aren't pushing for one yet.

It depends on the recruit. It's more of a one-on-one time with the coach and the player/parents. Answering more detailed questions and finding out what reservations they might have. It also lets the coach bond with other siblings and family members since they all can't come on the official visit.

I'll be shocked if the Harrison twins don't end up at UK and Kansas doesn't land Barber. Illinois is the perfect fit for Jackson and hopefully we'll get his commit soon.

There are some who will tell me that I'm setting my sights too high this early in Groce's tenure, but it'll be a hard pill to swallow if DJack winds up anywhere but Illinois. We seem to be in a great spot with him, and he is EXACTLY what we need - a major recruit to get the ball rolling and make the statement that it's cool to be an Illini again. It'd also be really nice to have a kid from Indiana give Purdue and IU fits during his years at UI!! I really hope we land him, and I honestly believe that a DJack commitment all but sways Nunn to come join him.
