No - scholarships are awarded on a yearly basis and once a coach pulls it, they are not on the hook for that player for the future, which is why you see Creaning occur - frees up a spot.

Yes, but at another school, that's the whole point.

I realize it frees up a basketball scholarship, that is the point.

If Ibby cares more about school than basketball, and if he were to get creaned, would our university still pay for his schooling? I'm assuming if the education is so important, he wouldn't go to another school.

Ibby would lose his basketball scholarship, but I am sure that they could get him eligible for some sort of academic scholarship. Always ways to get creative for the good of the basketball program.

Exactly...and that Groce's system is completely built around the backcourt play. This system is custom fit for top notch guards.

The amazing thing for me is how, after all of the years of hearing Bruce make promises but not seeing it translate to the court, Groce has been able to sell this fit to top recruits in such a short time frame.

Hate to be a wet blanket, but check out Jackson's quotes about ND joining the ACC. Not good.

Quote:
Mishawaka Marian senior Demetrius Jackson on #NotreDame joining #ACC - "It does change my (recruiting) thought process...

"To be the best, you've got to beat the best. My dream and my goal is to be the best."

More Jackson on #ACC - "It's definitely a very attractive move for all players who want to go to #NotreDame."

"Playing in a conference like (the #ACC) is definitely a way you can earn being the best."

Jackson says timetable for decision still the same - sometime before his first game of season. Could be tomorrow. Could be November.

Jackson admitted he would think once or twice about the chance to play in Carrier Dome, Dean Dome and Cameron Indoor Stadium every year.

That's why it'd be great to get Nunn on board. Sure, ND gets to play at those places, but they're going to get their skulls kicked in. Saddle up with Mr. Nunn and try to take down Jabari's MSU squad.

The message might be the same, but the messenger is different. A great recruiter can change things fairly quickly. I think Groce is going to do some amazing things here.

I have felt good about, cautiously optimistic you can say, for a few weeks now. Just seems to be more buzz lately.

Absolutely. If he closes a good class, he buys himself a ton of goodwill for what could be a tough season this year. The buzz becomes "the program is rebuilding bigtime" rather than "the program is having yet another rough year"

ACC sounds good on the surface for ND, puts ND basketball in the news...but hopefully after thinking it though he realizes it is still ND basketball & playing in the B1G is still playing with the best...so it goes back to Groce selling the opportunity & potential of IL & 2013 class we may be on the verge of putting together.

Illini impress Nunn; UCLA ruled out

This is more of the same, but goes into a bit more depth about the presentation:

Quote:
Melvin was especially impressed by the Illini's presentation, which lasted 5 ½ hours. Illinois assistants Paris Parham and Jamall Walker joined Groce on the visit.

"Illinois put on a fantastic presentation," Melvin said. "They brought in their projection screen. It was something you'd expect from a campus visit. They brought it into the home, which was pretty nice.

"It consisted of different categories with style of play, what Illinois can bring you in the future when basketball is over, leaving a legacy in your own state, player development, recruiting."

I wouldn't read too much into it. Of cousre he's going to say things like that when it's a ND reporter interviewing him. It's not like the B1G doesn't have good teams and two of those teams are in his home state. Not to mention we play the ACC every season.

Excellent, I was hoping Nunn would see that vision. Heck, should've known Coach Groce was way, way ahead of me in selling that to him!

Rice was the MAN and leader at Drake from Day 1. He has never been able to rely on more experienced players. The team rode his shoulders.

That's why I like him over anyone on the current roster. He never slacks.

in his defense he is quoting missus mia wallace from pulp fiction. so, that doesn't make him that old, and kind of hip.
