Paul Klee on WDWS tonight-

# Demetrius Jackson's considering a visit to Kansas this weekend, but that may get pushed back to a later date.
# Illinois visited both Demetrius Henry (2013 PF) and RaShawn "Pookie" Powell (2013 PG) while they were in Florida yesterday. The staff wants to get both on campus for a visit.
# The staff's trying to get Austin Colbert (2013 big) out to Illinois for a visit (that may or may not happen).
# Down the road, you may see Groce have more than 1 player on campus at a time because it's a short window of time.
# Groce (still) wants to sign 5 players for 2013.

If we happen to land Nunn and DJack, I will have another kid just so I can name him/her "John Groce".

her?

You better cross your fingers for 9 months that it's a boy or else you may have a strained relationship with your daughter.

Back to topic.

I honestly believe that were Groce able to land DJack and Nunn, it would be one of those events that we talk about for years to come as the point where Illini basketball got back on track.

Every so often I broach the idea to my wife of someday naming a child Cleotis.

She still thinks I'm kidding. I'm not.

Gotta believe that Notre Dame is being dragged along in Jackson's recruitment like the ole Illini were in previous years. Bruce was too inept to realize we didn't stand a chance with some recruits while John Groce is like a honey badger, he just don't care, and will recruit whoever.

I've done the same with my wife except I tossed out "Festus" as an option...she replied, "why would we name our child Fetus".

In case anyone wondered, I'm remembering former Illini Festus Hawkins.

That's much better that Festus. Actually Kendall would have been a good choice for either sex.

Kendrick Nunn set for weekend visit

"We're just anxious to see the atmosphere," Melvin said. "We never saw it outside of (Assembly Hall). We're looking forward to meeting some people and get a feel for the university while the students are on campus."

A couple of questions on Nunn:

  • If he commits to Illinois - is he an 'immediate impact' player?
  • In terms of B10 hierarchy, will it move us up far enough to contend for the championship for a few years? What about NCAA tourney?
  • Is he NBA-bound? If so, one year, two years, etc?
  • What, if any, advantageous effects will his signing have for future recruiting?

1. Not immediate impact like you see at Kentucky, but immediate contribution. As a 6-1 shooting guard he needs to continue to tighten up his handle (right hand) and develop a more consistent shot (right now he is a streaky shooter).
2. With just Nunn? No. With DJack, Nunn and Hill they'll be contending in a couple years.
3. NBA-bound, maybe eventually depending on how he works on his weaknesses. It's tough for 6-1 shooting guards to make it unless you have a very specialized skill. He won't leave early.
4. Officially breaks the seal for JG in Chicago and Simeon.
