Does anyone know the status of UConn for the NCAA tournament next year? Will they get their academic issues cleared by that time?

If Groce can pull this off, getting DJax and XRM he will be viewed by us as some sort of pied piper of college BBall. With the way he seems to be everywhere I prefer to think of it as The Espresso Express

Normally I hate it when someone posts something like this, but let's all just put this into perspective in CASE we don't land XRM (or even DJack for that matter). Just a few months ago, we were excited about John Groce but hadn't really seen anything to prove that optimism worthy, and just think of how excited we all were to even make Ennis' top five!! Now, in late September, we have landed a four-star recruit from Simeon - which, as the ESPN Chicago article said, DOES go way beyond just his talent - and are thought to lead with a five-star point guard from INDIANA (
) that we had no shot with before. The icing on this already delicious cake would be an XRM commitment, and that'd make this a top five class. I honestly think we have an okay shot at getting all three, but even DJack and Nunn (and even just Nunn!!) is a wonderful class, and I'm so thankful to have HCJG as captain of this ship!! The optimism is back, baby! GO ILLINI!

I think we've relayed pretty much everything there is to share.
DJ likely to Illinois next week XRM and his mother had a great visit This weekend went just about as good as it could've gone. No commitment to ND from DJ and XRM has his idol Deron Williams follow him on twitter (which I hear the coaches helped setup) |

Since they're following each other, that means they can also direct message. And since XRM already publicly reached out to Deron, I imagine he'll privately write him something.
It has to be pretty cool for him to talk to one of his heroes. Last edited by uppantera; Sep 23, 2012 at 02:16 PM. |

Dang, somehow missed this. Nick Offerman is an Illini, though.

I would love for DWill to message XRM. But, I believe he would have to follow NCAA protocol with respect to contacting prospective student athletes. I hope he would check in with Groce so that he understands the rules.

If they helped set it up, I'm sure those bases have probably been covered.

Yeah, I don't know if Deron could reach out to XRM, but if XRM initiated it (like he did with the Twitter follow), I don't see how that could be restricted.

IF we take only JG into account - forget the previous staff - we should have been excited all along!!! The new - coffee in a soup bowl vs. the old - watered down water. Quote:
Also, why are we so surprised that JG is getting kids from Indiana? Quote:
With every meet between JG and a kid he wants the pendulum swings in our favor. "okay shot" --> "good shot" --> "signed". Faith. __________________ My top 5 are Illinois, Illinois, Illinois, Illinois and Illinois, in no particular order |

Great to have made it through the weekend where no news is good news! I think it's safe to say we'll all be glued to this forum now waiting for some announcements.

Hey BTF, Ryan, Salty, I'm curious as to what the pitch XRM and his parents was. Obviously the being part of a potential Top 5 class and playing at a great basketball school was part of it but were any other specifics? It seems like his parents are playing a large role in his decision.
