In the end it came down to Illinois, Villanova, and Miami for Colbert, and for a while it seemed that the Hurricanes held the lead, but down the stretch the Illini kept gaining ground. Illinois hosted Colbert on an official visit that he loved, and with strong a strong effort from assistant coach Dustin Ford, the Illini reeled in the commitment.

I can't imagine I'm the first to say this, but doesn't Colbert remind you of Mike Davis? Not that this is a bad thing. I think Davis would have been a much better player in Groce's system. Seems like a good fit for us.

Boom goes the dynamite!!!! Great for the Illini, and he sounds like a great kid.

Thanked his family, his coaches, and veterans. Also acknowledged need to get stronger and that he has some work to do.

Very impressed with the kid!

Color me surprised. I thought he was staying back east for sure.

Congrats to Austin - he made a great choice.

Love this coaching staff.

Let's get a solid win tonight.

Colbert can handle better. Davis couldn't dribble... at all.

Mr. Bachhuber, where is my grid update?
Don't tell me you're working. . . .
I should be, but I'm finding it difficult.

Awesome news! Congratulations to Austin, Coach Groce, and Coach Ford.

Like a lot of us, I had checked out on this recruitment a few weeks ago. Just goes to show you that you never know until they pick up the hat.

Sidenote: With prep schools, etc. it's getting harder and harder to figure out where guys are actually from. It sounds like he's from Chesapeake, VA, but attends school in NJ - is that correct?

Great job by the coaching staff on the 2013 class!

A quality frosh at every position, plus Ravonte Rice!

FWIW, I don't know what all the other gurus were saying, but Brian Snow has been calling this one for a while. I don't know how much was inside info and how much was just good guesswork, but he has been saying he thinks it was us for several days.

P.S. For those who had heard the staff was cooling on Colbert -- recheck your sources! Obviously they weren't very good.

He basically picked up an entire team in the 2013 class. Seriously impressive.

Nice. I really liked listening to the kid talk at the end. He's obviously nervous and a bit tongue tied but he certainly nailed the right comments in my mind.

1. Groce will make me a better person and player
2. Illinois with a huge alumni network
3. Working hard in the weight room
4. Delayed announcement because Hurricane Sandy is bigger than his announcement
5. Thanked the veterans
6. Thanked his coaches and his parents.

Welcome to the Illini young man.

Well, one thing Colbert said during the commitment that I'm not sure I heard prior was how important academics were to him. Snow might have caught onto that at some point.
