^^^^ I would have been very surprised if Gundy left OSU for Arkansas. He is an alumnus and has built up a very strong program there. It would take a LOT to pry him out of there, and Pickens can counter any offer.

What the heck does Jones expect after he has been parading around two other schools looking for a coach? There ARE ways of doing this sort of thing with a bit more discretion.

This is the way a coaching search works. You take a shot at guys who probably won't listen. You go after guys who MIGHT consider your job. Then move on down your list until someone says yes. UCLA and ASU were turned down by multiple coaches. TAMU was trying to get an established SEC coach and settled for Sumlin.

So the bigger question is why the media have to play this silly narrative with every coaching search as if the AD is doing something terribly wrong when their first choice says no. Have none of these journalists ever been turned down for a date? Were they ridiculed when that happened?

I couldn't agree more.

And this Gundy-to-Ark. rumors are surprising unless I missed something about him being linked there.

Purdue might end up with a very good hire. What Hazell has done at Kent State is phenomenal, far more significant than what Doeren did at Northern Illinois or Butch Jones did at Central Michigan. Coming up the ranks, Hazell earned his keep as a recruiter. But his short stint at Kent State suggests that he also knows how to motivate guys. I don't know why his name hasn't been more prominent in the coaching carousel discussions.

The risk with Hazell is that he has never been a head coach, has never been a D1 coordinator, and only coached at Kent State for two years. But I guess that is a risk Purdue will have to take.

I agree that we should continue to talk with some of Wiskys guys they have committed to them now. especially Keeler he is like what? 6'7 280 OT?

revisiting some of Wiskys guys would be ideal.

Heck every other school does it why shouldnt we?

Why on earth? Showing my Midwestern bias I guess, but except for money I can't see why you'd make that move. Isn't Arkansas' place in the SEC far less secure than Wisky's in the Big 10?
