NIU will give FSU all they can handle in the orange bowl. FSU will probably win that game but it will not be a gross mismatch.

And Rod Carey is NIU's new head coach - not interim. That was fast.

Everyone said the same thing when Boise State played Oklahoma in 2007, look how that turned out

Come on man, NIU is nowhere near Boise St. Especially now that they're going to be without their head coach.

Yep. They didn't like the small-market bowl they were invited to, so they said they'd "wait for another opportunity." They got no other invites and are sitting out of the postseason.

Purdue, Mississippi State, Northwestern, & Northern Illinois all get into January 1st bowl games. Didn't see that coming.

Man I wish Illinois was in this discussion. It will probably be another three years before we are.

On the positive side, during the BCS selection show they called Iowa "the worst team in the Big 10."

It's ashamed that they had a shot to the BCS game and then their season collapsed

I'm happy for NIU. Living next to Dekalb, this will be a big deal for them regardless of how the game goes. They'll have a whole month to enjoy the attention. It's a shame they won't have Doeren but, can't blame him for taking the pay increase.

When Kirk Herbsrtriet was railing against Northern being in the BCS, brought up their loss to Iowa and said they were the worst team in the B1G. I'm sure it was just hyperbole but was nice to not be considered the worst.

I'm confused as to HOW Northern Illinois is in a BCS bowl game, over Oklahoma for instance, when NIU is BCS #15 and Oklahoma is #11 (I think).

I'm sure I could look it up, but hoping the knowledgeable here can illuminate, then I don't have to do that whole searching thing.

USA Today Final Regular Season Rankings

Ouch! This really hurts but can't be surprised. 112 out of 124.

Dan,

I was unsure where to put the article so I made a new thread.
