I don't understand this either. Criticize Coach Small? Thanks for your input, but I don't think it's warranted. Coach just doesn't have as much to work with this year as he did last year. I think that's clear. He has mentioned the word "consistency" which Illini don't have right now. Maybe he played a hunch or two. I have no way of knowing.
But this I do know for sure: his job is safe. Thanks, Coach - and team. Go!

Great round for Jackson! Just missed out on individual title. That start killed him. MSU collapsed hard.
I don’t blame coach small at all. It’s tough to make decisions when you have 4-5 guys who can all go out and play well and also go out and play horrendous and you never know and they’re fighting for the last 1-2 spots. He told everyone at the start of the year that the team needed to find consistency and they never did outside of a few guys. Hope they can catch fire for the regional! Ethan had a decent round to finish today that’s good for his confidence.
It’s a very young team. Ryan is a sophomore who is in his first year starting and missed half of his freshman year due to an injury. Jackson is a junior who has been starting for a few years now as has Piercen a senior but inconsistency has lead to Piercen being benched a few times. Max is a true freshman, so is Ethan and he has only started some of the spring. Coach Small knew this and that’s why he brought in Timmy and Tyler. They just have been so incredibly inconsistent he hasn’t been comfortable starting them. I’ve said all year I don’t envy being coach because he has so many tough impossible decisions for the starting lineup.

I hope we make it out of the regional will get the guys some confidence and good experience. Where’s the new location for the championship at?

Had to happen sooner or later, that was an amazing run of championships. 2nd is nothing to freak out about and they wont.
Hunt, vois and wilson couldn't really get it done but honestly, Max needed to be Robin to Jackson batman to take this. They will be fine.
Sure when can question not taking the seniors but these are the decisions that have to be made. I've said this before, but most college teams have certain guarantees into matches and then have a qualifier of sorts for other spots, fairly certain those guys 'earned' this is practice not just coaches choice.

A college golf coach told me yesterday that recent performance is the main thing, obviously. But if some players are "struggling", there may be "qualifiers" - a round or rounds - to determine who plays as a team or as individuals. Seems to be the best, fairest way to choose. I wonder what's happening at Atkins.

Every team that hosts a regional gets to stay home. Definite advantage for sure.Noticed that Purdue was assigned to West Lafayette regional.
Buchanan and Herendeen are the only two who I am certain about. Guessing there is some pretty intense qualifying going on about now. Nobody else has locked down a spot I wouldn’t think.
