Answer: August or September.

The Big Ten handled the 2011 men's basketball schedule release like dadgum clowns, so perhaps this season they'll wait until October. Yes, I'm still bitter.

Here are some key schedule dates from 2011 for reference. (Please note that this year the dates may or may not be similar, fyi.)

May 17, 2011:_____2011 ACC/Big Ten Challenge schedule released.
Jun 09, 2011:_____@BigTenMarkTV , the BTN's TV guy, tweeted that he expects the full sched to be ready at or around August 10th.
Jul 25, 2011:_____Illinois released the full non-conference schedule (typically 13 games).
Aug 04, 2011:_____The 2011 Maui Invitational Bracket announced. (The 2012 games on the island will take place Nov 19-21.)
Aug 13, 2011:_____@BigTenMarkTV and various other people say stuff like "expect the sched in the next week or two" repeatedly over the next 3 weeks.
Sep 05, 2011:_____@BigTenMarkTV announces that the Big Ten will announce the ESPN/CBS B1G games on the 6th, and the BTN B1G games on the 7th.
Sep 06, 2011:_____The Big Ten released only ESPN/ESPN2/CBS B1G league games.
Sep 07, 2011:_____The Big Ten finally, at long last, released the entire 2011-12 men's hoops league schedule.

The Big Ten Schedule

18 league games, each team will play seven teams twice and four teams once (the "single plays"). I think it's a safe assumption that our "single plays" will reverse from last year, so in 2012:

Illinois' single plays-
Home: Indiana, Penn State
Away: Iowa, Michigan State

When Are Tickets Available?

Last season's ticket dates for reference:
October 25th - Single-game tickets went on sale
November 4th - United Center general public tickets went on sale

Can't imagine on the B1G schedule that we merely reverse the 4 singles. I think we'll see the 4 single plays will come from the '011-'012 doubles. That's the only fair way.

Singles? Doubles? Tennis, anyone?!

Good luck to Coach Groce putting together the non-conf schedule. It will be interesting to see who he schedules to prep us for Maui.

Any idea who we get for the ACC challenge game this year? Can we assume it will be at TAH since we were at MD last year?

Yeah, in some interview Groce said he expected a home game in the Challenge this season.

I think they have been reversing the single game opponents since PSU joined, although a few years they only played 16 conference games. The coming season would be the second of the two year cycle before the individual game teams change, if things continue as they have for a really long time.

This makes more sense than the way I stated. I stand corrected, Dan.

I think I listened to some of the interview you're referring to and I heard the same thing. Also heard Groce say that he seems to have the non-conf schedule just about completed with the exception of a game or two. Can't remember exactly, but I thought he said it would be released in a few weeks. It was the Saturday Sportsline interview if anyone cares to check for themselves.

Well, we shall see , btw the "single-plays" announcement was made by the B1G last season June 16.

I would like to suggest Kansas State or Kansas for the United Center and Ohio for the Assembly Hall.

Let's have some fun games that will sell some tickets.

It won't be released until Aug/Sept at the earliest as Dan noted in the original post. They'll wait for the B1G schedule to be announced first and that doesn't happen until late summer.

This happens every year. Every year.

I believe I was one of the first ones ever to ask on this site. That was with another account, a long time ago. Formerly known as Warrior. Then Waamblem. Now just Waam.

Braggin' Rights game between #illini and #mizzou still a long-term deal despite Missouri's jump to SEC. Evidently, no scheduling problems.

Paul Klee on WDWS last night (no podcast), said Illinois will play at Hawaii in Honolulu prior to the Maui Invitational in November.

Illinois did the same thing before the 2007 Maui Invitational. UI beat Hawaii 79-77 on Nov 16, 2007. The was the game where Hawaii put their thrilling 28-26 football win at Nevada (to improve to 10-0) live on the big video board during game play of the hoops contest.

Was that the game where Calvin Brock hit the game-winner at the buzzer?
