Denmark was a guy i always wanted him to "figure it out" on the field....he has the athletic ability size speed but he just never translated it to the field

coaching also dint help by moving him around an awful a lot to DE, OLB, MLB, back to DE

tons of athletic ability....never translated to the field

tough one but wish him the best

on the other hand it does open up another scholarship for us to dangle in front of another DE prospect.....or LB

and the way Beckman and staff have been going that could only mean good things

It seems to me that Denmark needed to hit the weights and embrace the rush DE position, but he was set on playing LB. While he is a good athlete, he didn't have the agility or instincts to play LB. So in the end he was a man without a position, and never moved up the depth chart.

Denmark transfers to FAMU

“I’ve realized that in order to get to where you want to go you have to help your teammates,” he said. “You’ve got to to do what you’ve got to do; you might not make that tackle but you’ve got to make that play. Being up there (in Illinois) showed me that you can be a superstar without being in on all the plays.”

He played in 10 games during his freshman season, but with five tackles in limited playing time, he found himself down on the depth chart and was relegated to playing on special teams.

Obviously disappointed that he wasn’t among the regulars after playing his first season behind eventual Saints draftee Martez Wilson, Denmark decided to come home. His time in Illinois had benefits, such as adjusting to life away from home.

Hasn't this happened before? Something like "Zook recruits great athlete on condition great athlete gets to play position he wants ----> Great athlete doesn't excel at said position and would be better at another ----> Zook/coordinator does not make the required move as it would disrupt the bond of the mentor/mentee relationship"

At least it wasn't a wide receiver...

fwiw, a few of the guys who got constantly flipped around from position to position (especially Jack Ramsey) are glad they finally know their positions. Apparently all the flipping got really frustrating and some weren't very happy about it.

Yea I mean wasn't Jack this close to transferring to Illinois State like a year ago?

Have you heard of any guys who have switched positions with the new staff? Any that have moved from offense to defense or vice versa?

I'll be rooting for him and hoping he gets a shot at the NFL.

Also, I really wish Vic could've stayed on as DC. Denmark and Caldwell at DE would have been so good

He looks like he could eat the two other players running with him

And did you read an article where he said he wanted to play LB or is that just opinion?

Yes. Actually at one point he wanted to play safety. That said, I don't know that he resisted moving permanently to rush end this past spring. Perhaps he just doesn't have the size/strength to excel at that position but isn't a natural LB either.

Wasn't Denmark a LB under Koenning?

Yes, I was anxious to see what would become of some players if Koenning got to coach under Beckman.

I think he is just a physical specimen without a natural position. Doesn't have LB instincts and isn't big/physical enough to play end.

They tried him out at the hybrid position but then switched him over to LB to create some depth there. They wanted their best athlete in the middle like they had w/ Tez. I don't think he ever grasped it, so they switched him back but he was behind Buchanan, Staples and Caldwell.

Not a shot. He is a lazy kid with a poor attitude, and this team will be much better using that scholarship towards someone who fits Beckman's team philosophy.

NFL teams don't care too much about that as long as you're talented and your name isn't Vontaze Burfict
