Offense:
QB Units: Illinois #7 RB Units: Illinois #9 WR/TE Units: Illinois #10 OL Units: Illinois #10 Defense: DL Units: Illinois #5 LB Units: Illinois #6 DB Units: Illinois #6 Couple of thoughts: - It's obvious, as we have all been saying, that ESPN thinks our D will be our strength. - That said I think our QB and WR/TE should be higher. We have some good depth at QB and while we lack playmakers at WR, our TE's are pretty darn talented. - Defensively I think all of our units need to be higher. There are not 5 better DL units or DB units in the conference than ours. And while the LB's are a bit unknown outside of Brown there's actually a fair bit of experience to go along with talent. |

1st on QB's they are drunk having Purdue #1. They are basically saying that since they have 3 average guys who have all started they are ranked #1. We should be at 6 ahead of Minny b/c of what Nate has done taking us to 2 straight bowl wins.
I understand the RB, WR and OL rankings. We have talent there but not much substance so far. DL we should be 3 or 4. With the lack of depth I understand the #5 ranking though. LB and DB is about right. Either could move up a spot or 2 depending on how you look at some of the players. |

I'm glad you mentioned the PU QB ranking I completely forgot about that.
I guess that shows how seriously we should take these rankings. |

You cannot take anything the ESPN B1G blog writes seriously. Everything is a popularity contest there.

Yeah, any of these position rankings need to be taken with a grain of salt but it's just interesting to see where people think we are. Looking at these rankings though and if you would equate it out to a record I would think that would come out to about 5-6 wins if our units finish in those spots.
The average unit ranking comes out to 7.6 so rounding up takes us to 8th place in the B1G |

RB: Like others, I think we have better RB than this ranking indicates but they need to show it on the field. WR/TE: Based upon our strength at TE alone, we should be better than #10. OL: Totally justified until we prove otherwise. DL: We has the No. 7 defense in the country last year, largely to to a DL that for the most part is returning. This was a low-ball ranking. LB: I guess I can see this given that Bates and Williams are unproven. DB: We actually might be ranked a bit high. Yes, Hawthorne and Green are terrific athletes but neither have been the complete package at CB yet heading into their senior year. And there are some pretty serious questions at safety and regarding depth. __________________ ONLY ORANGE! |

I doubt whoever made that list spent that much time on it. Illinois' DL and LB group are good enough to be top 3

It's like the old saying in the NFL when a team says they have 2 QB's they actually have none. Well they have and Hope has said they are going to play 3... |
