Shootout at the Hall on hold

There will be no State Farm Shootout at the Hall this year.

The annual December event, which was held at the Assembly Hall on the UI campus from 2006 to '10 was moved to Parkland last year because of an NCAA rule adopted in April 2011 prohibiting Division I institutions from hosting non-scholastic basketball events on campus if prospective student-athletes (seventh grade and older) are participating.

Too bad the Shootout has to skip a year. But good news that it will be able to return to the Hall when the event gets a new organizer.

So the reason it couldn't be in the hall was because it had a corporate sponsor. Am I reading that right or is their something I'm missing? If not...then how does the rule change since it's still on a D1 campus and HS kids are participating? Guess I'm a little dumb getting my head around that.

It can't be organized by the Convention and Visitors Bureau anymore because they aren't a scholastic organization. It has to be organized by a school to hold it at the main basketball facility on a D1 Campus... It can still be sponsored by local businesses, just not organized by them.
