We need Aaron Bailey to hurry up and get here. NS is not the answer at Qb.

Serious question: Should we have offered Koenning the HC position? I didn't think so at the time, but I'm starting to second guess.

Is this the earliest postgame thread start time in IL history?

I feel like this is the second coming of the Turner Era. And I hated that era. And I normally am very optimistic, to the point of unreasonableness.

But we are...bad.

We are also seeing that there is value in hiring an experienced and proven offensive coordinator. None of Paul Petrino, Gonzales or Beatty were D1 coordinators calling plays before they took the reigns at Illinois. HUGE risk, even if Gonzales and Beatty can recruit. It is going to be hard to compete when we are schematically playing checkers and the other B1G teams are playing chess.

What does it mean when a loss like this does not even bother me any more? Oh, sure, I was upset in the 1st half, but now, it is a non-event.

I am guessing that this is what it felt like to be a fan in the late 1970's?

They are just dead to me.

You don't have to go back to the late 1970's. The start of the Turner and Zook era's felt very similar.

I don't think VK would be the answer. He never won more than 2 games a season during his three years as a head coach at Wyoming. He is a great defensive mind, but not every great coordinator is head coach material.

this was the worst illinois game Ive watched in a long time. Uninspired. On all sides of the ball. mistakes, turnovers (for the second straight game), penalties and injuries. There is very little to get excited about. very little.

Welcome to the "NEW ERA" folks... I can live with losing but when it is a total blowout that my friends is a different story. Not to mention back to back games of almost 60 points difference against unranked teams.... PATHETIC

It's the exact same way with me. I've always been on the optimistic side, and have never been much for knee-jerk reactions, but this is downright ridiculous. Good, bad, or otherwise, depending on your opinions, Beckman's gonna be around for 2-3 years minimum. It's unrealistic to call for his head after 5 games. But we do need to get a point across ASAP, and if that means we have a couple assistants looking for jobs come Monday, then so be it. Maybe it wouldn't be 100% fair to them, but something big needs to be done, and soon.

Aaron Bailey can't be the savior if we don't have a good O-line.

This was what I thought (and said) at the time. But there is certainly a chance that VK learned a thing or two over the ten years since that failure. He sure could get guys to play hard.

In regards to VK, the intensity that the players had with him as the DC was a total 180 in comparison to this years team. Also, there are a lot of seniors on defense so what does that tell you!

What an embarrassment for the UoI. Right or wrong, between the announcers ripping Beckman attempting to recruit "obviously better players at PSU" and the the poor play and game ejection ... my only advice to Beckman is before you start lamenting about sprucing up the stadium to attract fans, you better have a product worth watching. Nice recruiting film for PSU though.

I didn't even know what time we played today or if it was in C-U or Happy Valley. I hate that I don't care anymore.

At least we had new helmets on. I liked them. Didn't like anything else.

As crazy as I sound, I was actually really hoping they would. Granted it was just one game but we looked great in the bowl game with him as HC and the loss of Zook in that game didn't deflate the team. I don't know, I was really hoping Koenning at least stuck around though.
