Laws that forbid the carrying of arms…disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. … Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man. — (Jefferson’s “Commonplace Book,” 1774-1776, quoting from On Crimes and Punishment, by criminologist Cesare Beccaria, 1764

Moody's downgraded Illinois today to negative. That is really bad for you all that live there. If I had a pension in Illinois, I'd be saving some money for retirement.

Only in Illinois do you reward those who managed your state into bankruptcy with the freedom to do anything they please.
No, look at California, and even the Federal Government.

Mike Madigan re-elected House Speaker

Madigan is a Chicago Democrat who has held the position of House speaker almost continuously since 1983. The exception was a two-year period in the 1990s when Republicans had control of the House.
Madigan is arguably the most powerful Democrat in Illinois. He also serves as chairman of the Illinois Democratic Party.
He is also a senior partner at a law firm in Chicago. One of his daughters is Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, who was at Wednesday's ceremony.
Rewarded for another job well done. He successfully prevented any meaningful budget cuts for another year. In fact he prevented them from even coming for up for a vote.
