I think it's interesting that out of JG's first 8 signees/commits only 2 (Nunn & Tate) are from Chicago. He has the same number from Champaign.

First, a recruit is not going to share anything genuine about his recruitment on twitter, why would you assume otherwise? "Hey, I just brushed my teeth and I was thinking about Illinois while doing it." Is that the kind of stuff people want? Because there's never any substance or anything genuine about a recruit retweeting fans or something. Second, articles have a little more substance but are overall just as stupid. Why? Three reasons. Number one is that an article with quotes from a recruit ("mentions" of schools as you all call them) begins with a reporter interviewing a player. Players want to tell you all about their game and team and season--they like publicity--but then when the reporter inevitably asks about their recruitment its just awkward and the kid wants the guy out of his face. They're asked these recruiting questions and the kids just answer with whatever comes to mind fastest to a) please the fan base of the journalist and b) get the journalist to shut up as quickly as possible. Second, a kids answers to these random questions can be skewed by tons of different factors on any given day; which team last texted me? Who was at my game? It can't hurt to be mentioned by a recruit but it means nothing. Third and last, the reporter then writes the article and can pick any quotes, put them in almost any context, etc. And manipulate it however he/she pleases. Furthermore some will not publish certain things out of respect or request of the recruit. So you neverknow what it is you're actually getting. Some recruits don't mind talking honestly about their recruitments to journalists, but rarely is that ever the case with blue chip recruits. Much less someone like Alexander or Lyle. Did you ever actually believe anything that came out of the Parkers' mouths about jabaris recruitment? And that was a clean recruitment. Hope that clears it up. __________________ If you die in an elevator, be sure to push the Up button. |

This is such a old topic. I see racism everyday living in Chicago. What's the ratio of black athletes that play sports? Now tell me, whats the ratio of coaches at the higher levels. Not many. There are many variables that can play into this but some folks are just not ready hire black coaches.

Of course if people were interested in only discussing facts, we'd just wait and read the newspaper. There is some irony in having a Recruiting Thread where rumors would not be discussed. I know it wasn't you suggesting that be the case but come on. We'd have about 10 posts a month on this whole site if all we did was post actual proven news.

It's college basketball recruiting. If you can't have a little fun with it then why the hell are we even here?
If you want to hang on every word a recruit puts on Twitter, I say go for it. Don't let the silly recruiting bullies stop you. __________________ "The freight train is moving. Either jump on or get off." - John Groce |

Not sure what newspaper you read, but the ones I've read seldom contain anything that I would ever consider "fact". Most nowadays are filled with information that is thrown out as quickly as it can be received in order to qualify as 'breaking news', and it is so poorly researched that incorrect information is quite common...not to mention the grammatical errors and poor spelling that is rampant. But, I guess that is what we must come to expect from future generations who are not taught how to write with a pen and paper, and who only know slang, shorthand, LOL's OMG's AFAIK's, IMHO's, ROTFLMAO's, etc.
