Former Villanova guard Ty Johnson will likely transfer to either Illinois or South Carolina, per a source....

Nova definitely impressed last night. I figured losing guys like Dominic Cheeks, and Maalik Wayns to early departures along with a guy like Isaiah Armwood who transferred a couple seasons ago would make it a down year. There I still plenty of talent for the Wildcats to sneak into the top 8 of the Big East. They also lost heir top rated player in 2011 in pg Tyrone Johnson who I can't find listed on another D 1 offer. Kid would of probably started with Wayns, and Cheek leaving but Ryan ArchiDiacono even though he is a gunner would have gave him competition.

Do I get any credit for this?

Wow, rivals had him as the #52 overall recruit in 2011.

He was TERRIBLE as a frosh last year. Lots of turnovers, horrible shooting. I'd pass.

He was playing at about 60%. He was coming off a broken foot and never got up to full speed.

LOTS of freshmen PG's have that same experience their first year of college. Abrams was not "lights out" either.

So you don't think he would improve while sitting out however long he is supposed to? We are losing two senior guards who handle the ball a lot. I think a top 60 player especially at the point guard position would be a great acquisition to the illini. I think Groce can help the kid improve.

Does this foreshadow that someone on our roster will transfer?

not holding my breath on this one. can't see us bringing in another kid as part of the 2013 class as we already have 6, which is too unbalanced as it is. it does make me wonder though if the coaching staff already knows someone is leaving at the end of the semester. by the way, since the semester ends this week, i have to assume that, for eligibility purposes, someone leaving at the end of this semester would leave prior to the missouri game.

It's been pretty obvious for a while now that at least one of Ibby/Shaw will transfer after the season is over.

Did we pull the trigger on Tate too quick? What does this mean?

It's pretty much a lock, IMO, that someone is transferring. That's the norm in college basketball now.

Agree. He had very comparable numbers to Abram's freshmen year. For comparison:

Johnson: 17.7 MPG, .311 FG%, .231 3P%, .875 FT% (35-40), 2.0 APG, 1.8 T/O, 3.3 PPG

Abrams: 21.1 MPG, .408 FG%, .257 3P%, .630 FT% (29-46), 1.9 APG, 1.6 T/O, 4.3 PPG

It looks like he didn't play this year but will be transferring mid year. So he'd have to sit out a full season and then have 3 years left. He'd be eligible this time next year. If he wanted to play right away, he'd only play for 1/2 a season while using up one of those years.

IMO, you take a chance with this kid. There is ALOT to work with in his skill set. Also love his size at the position.

Apparently he lost his starting position to a true freshman (another 4-star recruit) this fall and that is what prompted the transfer. Was he still hobbled this fall?

Since he didn't play this fall, would he be eligible to play next fall, or not until mid-year?

A scholarship would have to open up for him to come here, correct? Is the staff anticipating a transfer soon??

We'd need a second kid to run the point once Brandon is gone. You'd prefer not to put that kind of pressure on Jaylon's shoulders.

Makes you wonder. This Johnson kid is looking at transferring into a school for the upcoming Spring semester. I wonder if news will leak soon of a transfer. IIRC, this is about the time Head left last year.
