Between offering our throwbacks in all three colors to making Brad's script pullover available for sale, Nike and the DIA seem to be trying really hard to NOT accept all of our fans' money...
That’s the one thing that has really surprised me about this whole “coach casual” thing. I was certain that Nike would be all over offering at least 2-3 items that coaches are now wearing for public sale. The coaches are pretty much walking advertisements now. Just for grins, I’ve looked at a few other schools that wear Nike, and I don’t see a lot of the “sideline gear” available. Meanwhile, the Packers apparel site has multiple pages of what we see coaches and players wearing on the sidelines.

I would 100% buy one of those script quarter zips, and you're right, it's unlike Nike not to have everything being merchandized.

This is the closest thing that I’ve seen to a Nike Illinois basketball half zip that the coaches might have worn this season.

It’s sold out in every size above small.

And it’s unfortunately in the far inferior version of the Script.

These are probably my favorite uniforms we’ve had, other than the throwbacks, in my life time (born in ‘97). I always thought the orange and blue really popped on them and I really loved the ILLINI word mark as well. Only thing I didn’t like was how baggy the shorts were, unfortunately that was a product of the time.
Not sure why there is so much hate for the baggy shorts? I keep hearing it on TV too from guys like Hummel who played in that era which wasn't that long ago. I personally prefer baggy athletic shorts to ones that are well above the knee line. It just looks off to me. But bball players can wear black leggings/compression socks which don't make shorter shorts nearly as bad

Wow, just dawned on me that next season will be 20 years since our last final four 🤯. I REALLY hope they honor that awesome team with the respect they deserve & do a tribute throwback.
2005 team deserves the honor of a throwback uni in 2025

Agreed. Still, after seeing Indiana last night, I’m so grateful Illinois is with Nike over Adidas. Did you see Indiana uni last? It looked like they were in mourning black, which is appropriate for their program.

Appropriate place to discuss Underwood not wearing the orange jacket in at least a season or two?

It was always reserved for large games, but he hasn’t dusted it off for a while.
Based on everything I’ve seen, Underwood has basically ditched formal attire. The only time he ever wears a suit or sport coat is for the Coaches vs Cancer Suits and Sneakers event, which is always the last weekend of January. He could have worn the orange sport coat for the Indiana game, which was the Illini’s designated game. Not completely sure why he opted to wear a blue sport coat instead of orange given that’s the only time he wears a coat all year.

Fair enough, I think me personally being a tall and skinny guy I prefer to not look like I’m swimming in my clothes haha.

He wore the orange blazer against MSU last year for the orange out and I think Bethune Cookman. He hadn't worn it in a long time before that, I think 2020? Last season I think part of it was looking for a spark. Be interested if he wears it this season for orange out or Purdue game.

I think he is saving it for the NC game this year. ;)

There has got to be some kind of contractual obligation to Nike that we have that compels us to wear the blues.

I live in Metro Detroit. Remember the MSU football uniforms with the neon green where "STATE" is in giant letters across the front but it's so big you only see "TAT" and it just looks goofy? Every single MSU fan I've ever talked to HATES those uniforms. It's an apocalyptic event when the team socials reveal that they'll be wearing them. They wore those when they blew a 28-3 home lead to Lovie Smith, and then they KEPT WEARING THEM. Not only do MSU fans hate them, but they now have a Pavlovian response where they instinctually expect ignominious defeat whenever they see the things.

The reason MSU keeps wearing them must be the same reason we keep wearing the blues. We have to find a way out of this.

The shame of it is, despite having the obvious revulsion for blue Illinois basketball uniforms because of our history in them, I think these look really good aesthetically.

Definitely the best item we came up with during the "eliminate white and just use orange and blue" period of a few years ago.

"Fighting Illini" above and below the numbers just can't go wrong really.

But they’re still a B- jersey given the font … if you want a navy jersey, the jump to a blue Flyin’ Illini set is right there and so damn easy!

Oh yeah absolutely I think they look absolutely fantastic. Chef's kiss on the design.

But possessed by a demon, they must be.

I don't know if it's contractual, but it seems like we try to break out the blues for games we "should" win to shake off the bad juju. With the exception of two wins against Wisconsin, we instead tend to crap the bed with them.

If it's contractual, wear them in exhibition and then never again. At least if we're going to lose in them, it wouldn't hurt our actual record that way

Our record on the road is always worse than our record at home every single year. If you are going to claim the blues are cursed, we need to control for that somehow.
You're the GOAT of that kind of analysis, but I've seen it before and it was truly insane how dramatic the effect of the blues was even controlling for them all being road-neutral games.

Haha, I wanted to look at this today but got way too busy at work ... and who am I kidding, I am still super depressed about the loss yesterday, too.
