Some allusions on 247 that the mystery player could potentially be a quick and easy process once he enters, similar to Quincy for us last year with how quick that played out. I would love to get a top guy where he practically enters with a “no-contact” tag and it’s FOR US. Huge steps for the program over the last half decade, I can’t imagine that even being a possibility in 2018-19

I would like you all to know that on my "official visit" to a HS friend's older brother's fraternity "Around The World" party at UI, I of course got absolutely hammered on a variety of weird liquors I had never even heard of before and I held it all down.

The next day probably would have been better if I had puked, but still. Iron stomach.

And yeah, the Illini secured my commitment on that trip, no question.
What year was that around the world party?

Kid looks like a winner,EDG,maybe more bang for the buck than say,Jones.Elite shooter ,6'8 ,any chance here?
I don't understand this value based comments. With no salary cap, value means nothing. It really comes down to how much money you can get. Which I personally think is a ridiculous way to run any sport, but that's a different topic.

But I keep coming back to what you do to the defense. 5 good players, make a great team. No weakness, and you can exploit weakness on the other team. 3 good players, 1 average player, and 1 great player will be a better team. Because that one great guy occupies the defense and allows the good guys to get clean looks and be even better.

We need a Batman. The Ayo, Kofi, Shannon guy that makes defenses gameplan for them. That causes defenders to say I can't leave this guy to help. A perfect example of this was Purdue. If they had Isaac Haas instead of Edey, that's not a great team. But Edey elevated their team far beyond what he alone brought to the table.

Not making any comment specifically about this kid, just in general. If we want another deep tournament run, I think we have to have an Alpha. Reality is, all of our best seasons have had an All American on the team. So at some point we're going to have to break the bank and bring in a stud.

Well, some time in the 04-05 school year, I don't exactly remember. There wasn't a basketball game happening, I would have remembered that.

But WE have a salary cap in that we only have so much money to throw around, and are reportedly seeking 4 more players. Every dollar we save on one spot makes our options at the other spots better. Value is a critical, paramount consideration.

If it weren't, we'd have AJ Storr. Was it wise of us to back off? Ask me in a month.

Teams have a pool of NIL at their disposal, deciding how to allot resources is everything.IMO saving some cash for someone like Holmes could prove wise.

I know building the team from the portal takes time and patience... but....

Yeah, we keep talking about how many guys we're going to sign, and then turning around and worrying about how we can possibly play them all.

Everyone knows in basketball a dollar is worth way more than four quarters.

If zeroing out the budget to land David Jones (I can't even imagine Holmes) is what it takes to get the deal done, it's worth leaving 2, shoot maybe even 3 scholly's empty. As a matter of fact that is probably the optimal distribution of resources. 13 scholarships makes less and less sense in this environment, that may not last long.

yes but the post I was responding to said Wells over David Jones to save money.

So that was why I said, at some point you need to bring in the studs. We can't go the moneyball route and try to be very clever with our spending when other schools are just throwing around money like its monopoly money. Holmes is higher on the list than Wells, but the point still remains. Every great team has a stud. We need one too.
