Do yourself a favor and don’t buy any personalized jerseys for the next few years. You are adjusting to this new world of college basketball worse than I am.
great advice

Personalized professional jerseys may be a slightly better choice

or just get an erasable tattoo

One thing folks should understand about NIL is that it doesn't really work like a checkbook for Brad Underwood or Bret Bielema.

In many cases, the $ available is conditional. So, if you don't spend $2m on AJ Storr, for example, that doesn't necessarily mean you have $1m X 2 available for two lesser additions. And it doesn't mean you can throw a huge bag at a player that isn't as well known just to outbid another school. The big hitter donors want to win.

So, it's a misnomer to claim Illinois has a set amount of money to spend on its roster. Yes, ICON has pledges in the coffers. Those pledges have been reported to be in the $3m range for hoops. But all pledges aren't equal. And they aren't accumulating that type of cash through one-time donations on their website.

I love Coleman. Watching him grow up over 4 years and be a leader of the Elite Eight team. Gave everything. However if he chooses to play college basketball elsewhere he is dead to me. I will remember him as someone who chose to play against the Illini. He will no longer be an Illini all time great. Its an insult to all the other all time Illini greats - Eddie Johson, Bruce Douglas, Dee Brown, Deron Williams, Nick Anderson, Kendall Gill, Kenny Battle, Terrance Shannon. None of them abandoned Illinois to play for another school
So, the one guy who was here for four full seasons(and a couple of championships) is dead to you, but guys who came here for one or two years are legends? In the day and age of NIL/portal, it's an odd take.

If Coleman got himself a national championship anywhere but Illinois I would be so depressed. Maybe eventually happy for him but bitter for longer than I’d like to admit.
How sad would Coleman be if he went to another school and we won a Natty. I doubt he goes elsewhere if he comes back to school though.

I wonder what any of those guys would have done if they had say 500,000 to a cool million of NIL offered to them?
Considering Battle and Shannon left other schools to transfer to Illinois, and Williams and Anderson left early for the NBA, it's probably safe to assume they'd take the bag too.
Coleman put in more time at Illinois than 4 of his 8 "Illini greats".

The thing I always wonder is how much the high rollers influence and dictate what players are worth what money as opposed to the staff's more basketball educated view.

A healthy relationship between bagmen and staff has been key for a long time, but it's all so much more formalized now.

how long will it take for some QB or stud hoops player to become the highest paid person in the university or state ?

I’m all for players having “freedom” to move and getting NIL, but this is just WAY different than I ever imagined 3 years ago

pretty much all players NOT drafted in first round can make more money staying in college than in the pros

There are two guys the staff has in mind if Egor doesn't work out. I think they are all pretty optimistic with where things stand with him right now. Still a couple things to work through though
If you were to hazard a guess, what day this week (or next) would we find out if those couple of things were indeed worked through? Asking for my friends on the Loyalty board.

I'd guess the staff makes that assessment then sells to the donors. Either way, they seem pretty smart in terms of not overpaying.
