One thing folks should understand about NIL is that it doesn't really work like a checkbook for Brad Underwood or Bret Bielema.
In many cases, the $ available is conditional. So, if you don't spend $2m on AJ Storr, for example, that doesn't necessarily mean you have $1m X 2 available for two lesser additions. And it doesn't mean you can throw a huge bag at a player that isn't as well known just to outbid another school. The big hitter donors want to win.
So, it's a misnomer to claim Illinois has a set amount of money to spend on its roster. Yes, ICON has pledges in the coffers. Those pledges have been reported to be in the $3m range for hoops. But all pledges aren't equal. And they aren't accumulating that type of cash through one-time donations on their website.
