We need to get Egor; the cake needs some icing.

I love Coleman. Watching him grow up over 4 years and be a leader of the Elite Eight team. Gave everything. However if he chooses to play college basketball elsewhere he is dead to me. I will remember him as someone who chose to play against the Illini. He will no longer be an Illini all time great. Its an insult to all the other all time Illini greats - Eddie Johson, Bruce Douglas, Dee Brown, Deron Williams, Nick Anderson, Kendall Gill, Kenny Battle, Terrance Shannon. None of them abandoned Illinois to play for another school
None of them played in this era. Most (maybe all) would have played the same cards current players are. Attachment issues can be resolved. I know, I have them too :)

Appreciate your perspective. I'm pretty clearly in the super-minority here when it comes to Coleman. I'm neither heartbroken that he left nor betrayed. He was fine. I appreciate his 4 years of growth and valued his occasional ability to take over in a game. I also grew tired of his inconsistency and this seemingly constant complaining to refs.

So, I truly just wish him the best. Hope he finds a program that helps him grow into the best player he can be.

People refuse to acknowledge the truth even when they're smacked in the face with it.
Loyalty Hyperbole strikes again, with a vengeance.

IF CoHawk returns to college hoops. IF CoHawk goes to another team. THEN I'll and I'm sure any others holding out hope will acknowledge the situation as it plays out.

I don't entirely disagree but, none of them had this kind of opportunity in this NIL situation either, and without any transfer penalty.

Have to say I hated the idea of Coleman on UCONN or UNC. Still would hate him on UNC, but the entertainment value of Coleman and Hurley together has me reconsidering my aversion to his transferring to UCONN.
If Karaban stays in the draft and Coleman doesn't, Coleman is a Huskie. IMO.

I mean, how does he get the massive bag at St. John's of all places? And why isn't our bag way bigger than theirs? Or maybe it already is, but anyway the bottom line is Richmond is going there and he's not going here. That's a miss. I really hope we go all out for Demin. Anything less and we're looking at a 6 to 8 seed caliber team.
It can't be a miss unless you have all the information, which obviously we don't.

Welcome to the super minority. I also wish the best for CoHawk just as i do for all who have honorably worn the O and B, but like you, I didn’t buy a ticket on the CH NBA Express.

The plan as of now is to add 1 more ... Unless something crazy happens and it's an opportunity Brad can't pass up ...

Everyone - i know that a lot of you Guys will be asking me whO that one may be but Really ... you should just be patient and let them finish cooking ... the meal will be Delightful, Exceptional, Magnificent, Impactful, and Noteworthy ...

I do think if Nico wanted to come back ... They would do it ... They would be less hesitant to do it if it would push them to 13 though ... Brad wants one open ...
Love it! 🤞

There are two guys the staff has in mind if Egor doesn't work out. I think they are all pretty optimistic with where things stand with him right now. Still a couple things to work through though
Since Egor is a Russian citizen there are probably some hoops involved with that, including seeing if it’s okay to somehow arrange money to be sent to him. OFAC has all kinds of sanctions and secret lists.

A lot to like about Cedric. very quick release from deep but athletic enough to attack the rim. How many years would we have him?
Someone mentioned Coward a couple days ago and I jumped on the band wagon.
Sounds like he is Washongton St. to lose if he drops out of draft. His former coach at EWU and former teammates are there.

Crazy how talented players coming from small programs then to mid majors are now high major recruits. Coward looks like a pro, I would put him at the top of my list. Seems to be able to play some point as well as SG/SF.

Just a guess, but I would think, had the current rules been in play during his time, Kendall Gill might’ve left after his freshman or sophomore year. Same with Dee and Deron after Bill Self left.

NIL / transfer portal have changed everything.

Coleman can do what he wants but I don't have to like it. If you want to be remembered as an all time great then you don't leave for more money or some other excuse. TSJ was NBA or Illinois.

JMO - no way Lakers should retire Lebron's number. Nor should the Heat. The Cavs could - but even though he brought them a championship he left twice. LeBron cares primarily about LeBron.

I am glad Brad has a handle on the portal. If I was college coach at end of my career I would retire. The days of developing players for 4 years to be the best they can be appear to be over.

Interestingly a Marquette friend told me Shaka did not have anybody transfer out and not bring anybody in from the portal. Not everybody is happy about it.

Purdue is bringing in 6 freshman and no transfers. They did lose 2 players to portal.
Should be very interesting to see if teams staying old school can succeed.

Michigan State has not been active in transfer portal in 2023 but appear to be changing their stance

........The mass exodus of once-ballyhooed freshmen was a major undertone of college basketball's 2024 transfer portal cycle. Forty-eight of the top 61 recruits from the Class of 2023 are expected to return to the college ranks next season. Over half (25 of the 48) are in the 2024 transfer portal......

So…. according a Belarusian I know who speaks fluent Russian, Egor Demin likely pronounces his name yeh-GORE D’YO-mihn. She says there’s actually a slight “z” sound between the D and the Y in the last name pronunciation, but it makes no sense really looking at it in an English translation. It would be Dz’YO-mihn if you can get your mouth to actually make that sound.
