When the whole NIL thing got started (and don't misunderstand, I am all for players getting paid their due) I was under the impression that players would do auto dealer ads and such things like that and would get, oh, $10-20,000 for those ads, which, if it was a star player might add up to $100,000. In fact, I thought that the money they made would be predicated on that kind of situation instead of having donors dropping millions into a big pot and then coaches doling it out. That is, if player A did an auto dealer commercial he would get whatever such things like that pay. Now some of these players are getting more than most CBB coaches. I guess I was just plain naive. I am not saying that it shouldn't be like that but it just seems pretty wild to me. Do players who make so much money still get a free education (scholarships)? They certainly have more money than my parents had, but my parents made enough that I was not able to get any financial aid (if I remember correctly, it was a long time ago).
By the way, I like to point this out, that my cousin was the Federal judge who ruled against the NCAA in the O'Bannon case that got this all started. She asked me for advice on the ruling (just kidding, she is one of the smartest people I know and certainly did not need advice from a dimwil like me).
