We can have off nights, but I don't worry about "bad" shooting nights. We get a lot of offensive rebounds and put backs; we have Domask shooting from layup range and very short jumpers; we have TSJ in transition. These are high enough percentage shots and we will score 70+ on a bad shooting night. We don't let games get away from us - our D steps up when needed (wish it was always tough). We didn't lose a game by more than 10 all season. There is a reason to be comfortable with this team in the tourney. We are always going to believe we are in the game no matter the score and keep pushing.
Sure, it is possible someone gets smoking hot like when we played Northwestern on the road, but even if they do, we are going to still be in the game. I have more faith in this team than any others in my lifetime, excepting 1989 and 2005. We are dam good, and the other team is going to have to play a heck of a game to beat us.
BYU is getting a lot of buzz as a sleeper pick to beat us in the round of 32. Every player that sees significant time on that team including their 6'11" center shoots a lot of threes and at a rate above 30%. Think they average about 35% as a team. They rebound well. However, like Northwestern, I think they must shoot it a lot better at home. They were 3-7 on the road compared to 7-1 at home during conf play (although that is not terrible in the Big12). It is unlikely that they light it up with a 50+% shooting night from 3 on a neutral court. And any misses will give TSJ and opportunity to get out in transition (which is anything better than a 1 on 4 break). While BYU has a puncher's chance, I don't think that they can play with us for 40 minutes.
This ⬆️.

One of the things I love most about this team and our stellar offense is the quality of shots we get. Even on nights our 3s aren’t falling and we miss some bunnies, we’re still right there. When those fall (plus our free throws) we’re a near impossible out 😄.

Field of 68 thinks (clean sweep) illinois doesn't make it past this weekend. 100% consensus.

Me too. Was thinking about that today and how a couple of quick fouls could take TSJ out of the game similar to what happened vs Purdue.

We have to adjust our play to how the game is being called.
I just thought about this - First weekend referees are from many different conferences, including smaller conferences.

Good news is that we cannot have a Big Ten referee work a game (at least until the Final Four) unless that referee also works for the other conference. That means unless our "favorite" officials also work the Ohio Valley, they can't work this game.

Bad news is that we could have officials that have no idea how to officiate the speed and physicality of Illinois.

I was not able to watch the games live Saturday or Sunday. I feel like I should not watch live the next 3 weeks or risk being the cause of our destruction.

So much pressure.
Could you possibly give us the "forecast" for the Final four weekend :)

Who cares. More people than not are still going to pick us. We are better than every team we play until the elite 8, and yes that includes Iowa State. They have had more success, but we have more talent and are just as hot. Time to make a statement these next few weeks and do something special

Apologies if missed… I was unsuccessful through the IFund to secure tickets for Thursday.

Does anyone know if there are sections/blocks where IFund and other Illini fans will be seated?

Go Illini

We don't exactly have a lot of recent NCAA tournament success to rest on. Until that happens, I'm going to be nervous every tournament.

They'd be further out on a limb predicting us to an Elite 8 versus saying we will be done this weekend. It is what it is at this point and hopefully the boys can prove them wrong.

Just as a reference, BYU is ranked 12 in net as a 6 seed. Texas tech is 28th as a 6 seed.

Iowa state is 6 in Net as a 2, Marquette is 13 as a 2.

If I didn’t know any better, I’d swear the NCAA selection committee hates Illinois.
Don’t know if it has already been mentioned as I’m working to catch up on this thread but BYU was a 5 seed that asked to be 6 to avoid playing on Sunday.

This is the team. I honestly believe we are seeing one of those multiple banner years.
That's about all there is to it.
The depth is getting great experience heading into the tournament and most intriguing to me, any lineup that includes Coleman and Dain (case in point, the 3/4 court assist against Wiscy).
It all starts with getting a W on Thursday.

It was exactly 3.

On the other hand, like 5/6 CBS Sports heads have Illinois in the E8.
I watched a couple of their prediction videos. Dauster was in both. Seems to be a consensus on there - Hansborough, Goodson, Dauster, Fanta and another guy. This needs to be poster material for the boys. Not getting any respect. Hansborough hates us and the feeling is mutual. Goodson is picking BYU because we haven't had any recent success in the tourney. The other guys don't trust us - even though Dauster was picking us for the final four a couple of weeks ago.

I'm going with "Coleman always gets the last laugh" on this one.

Hansbrough doesn't even deserve a platform. He was the same dumbo who said that the Illini would be a bubble team after TSJ's suspension. Dauster and Fanta are Big East homers. As for Goodman, I'm surprised he hasn't gotten on the Illini train

How would we say this Morehead State team stacks up against the Chattanooga squad that gave us a run a couple years back?

Illinois should fear no one this tournament. Bring on all challengers! Let everyone else be scared about having Illinois as their draw or potential draw.

Yes, I still feel Purdue and Zach Edey is our personal kryptonite, but we’ll tackle that mountain if and when we both get to game #6. Til then… let’s unleash the Shannon-Domask Show on the nation!
