Illinois 91, Marshall 74 POSTGAME

Anyone else feel like KN should start in place of alstork if he doesn't make a big leap forward soon?
Kipper is a backup to 4/5, so I think he will continue to contribute from bench. But will play 20+ mins every game.

Jordan and DaMonte is more likely to take Alstork's starting role.

No concerns regarding Tejon, can fix the earky foul issues.

Alstork doesn't seem like the scorer he was at Wright St. Also needs to make the right reads on offense. If play doesn't improve see more minutes AJ and Damonte way.

I agree with this, and don't expect him to be in the normal 8- to 9-man rotation given what he has done to date, but anything incremental we get from the kid this year is essentially gravy in any event. The sooner we can get him looking and feeling comfortable in game situations, the better off we will be. He may not get there, but one of the reasons that you play cupcakes in the early season is to determine whether the fringe 2nd or 3rd tier players can actually perform at this level. Would hate to be in a situation where his first meaningful minutes are in Big 10 play. He is making a number of tough transitions at once (foreign to US, HS to college, living way from home), so it stands to reason that it will take him a while to get comfortable.

If he can get some minutes in the Augustana game, it would likely help his confidence, though Augie has a lot of height for a DIII team.
On Teets... I think that's difference between a BU and many other coaches. He will develop to maximize Teets potential. Wisconsin has been doing it for years and I think we finally have a coach that may come close to match their development track record. I expect Teets will be at least a good contributor, if not more. It will take fletch, hard work and positive reps.

Teets came in August. Missed the whole summer conditioning and is not strong enough to play 4/5 at college level. Also he has only been 3 months in the US. It's difficult to adjust to the life and academics even not mentioning CBB.

Let's give him a full summer of growing stronger to see what he can do. I think we don't RS him because we are thin on frontcourt. May need some minutes from him if some frontcourt guys get injured.

Think his not being here this summer shows how much he needs to catch up. BU taking his time with him only shows how much he knows about the guys. AJ and Kipper, what can you say, they are proving all they needed was PT. Shows what a difference change makes.;):illinois:

Easy win aside, first-year Illinois coach Frank Underwood was clearly frustrated by his team's inconsistencies on both ends of the court.

''What am I seeing? What am I seeing?'' he yelled to the scorer's table after one possession, following that up with an order to his team as they brought the ball back up the court. ''I want to see a good shot down here! I want to see a little toughness!''

Frank ? cmon man !

Also BU has stated that he likes to have some punch off the bench and Kipper definitely brings that.

We just straight up bullied Marshall. No other way to put it. Can't remember the last time I could say that about our Illini.

I really wish a good team was next on the schedule, because I'm starting to get too excited about this team. Need a real test now.

Freudian for Frank Martin/Brad Underwood combo...Such a slip can be considered a compliment:)

Groce said the right things but it didn't show on the court... Underwood is the real deal and it's refreshing to see a attacking team on offense and defense

Point forward Leron Black....Who said Groce couldn't get his scoring PG?! Haters ;)
LOL....I guess JG didn't realize what he had:).

Agree JG deserves Kudos for finding KN, among others(TJL, etc).

We will find out alot about our team when B10 starts in less than 2 weeks, but I like seeing the growth and having a hard nosed coach who expects to win.

Trent Frazier would've thrived in Groce's ball screen offense. Not saying he can't thrive in this offense, but I can see why Groce went after him so hard.

And with that being said, are there more ball screens for Trent when he is in the game? That's what I kind of noticed, but wasn't paying attention to it too hard. Maybe Fivestar can help me out. Something to look for in future games too.

I'm ecstatic with our play, the talent of our players, the offensive philosophy that Underwood has brought and our ability to succeed to this point. Don't want to be the party pooper in regards to some previous posts who are optimistic about the entire year coming up, but I certainly worry a LOT about how we are going to be able to defend in the paint when we finally see some real talent in there (i.e. Mich St, Purdue, Wisconsin, Michigan......on and on and on when in the Big 10). Underwood did it last year at OK St so if anyone can pull it off he can. But, I still worry.
