Anyone else feel like KN should start in place of alstork if he doesn't make a big leap forward soon?

Need him to back up LB and MF so won' happen until GE is developed.

While I understand we haven't been playing top notch opponents, it has been thoroughly enjoyable watching our boys play.

So far so good. I'm really hesitant to get overly excited at this point though. All home games against teams we should expect to beat regardless of who the coach is. Even Wake is a game we should win, but it's on the road so I'll consider that a true test. Beat NW and I'm all in.:D

I'm most impressed with the team seeing a lead evaporate and not going into panic mode. They gut it out and the runs come and go. They play their game. Coach is going to do great things here. I can't wait to see what this team looks like in February if they keep working this hard.

Good point. Even though Marshall really wasn't all that tough when it came to push and shove, they kept their heads when the 9 point lead dropped to 3 in like 1 minute...

Alstork will be phased out real quick if he doesn't start producing. Not impressed

He’s playing good D and rebounding. Still a valuable piece even if not scoring. Just has to stop playing hero ball and play within the offense.

I'm ecstatic with our play, the talent of our players, the offensive philosophy that Underwood has brought and our ability to succeed to this point. Don't want to be the party pooper in regards to some previous posts who are optimistic about the entire year coming up, but I certainly worry a LOT about how we are going to be able to defend in the paint when we finally see some real talent in there (i.e. Mich St, Purdue, Wisconsin, Michigan......on and on and on when in the Big 10). Underwood did it last year at OK St so if anyone can pull it off he can. But, I still worry.

You are correct to be worried. The large-bodied Big Ten teams will be a problem for us. If the two new bigs (Ebo and Vesel) on the bench are not able to contribute by the meat of the Big Ten schedule, the Illini will be in trouble. I will be happy if only one of them is helping.

Yea he is really struggling thinking too much on offense. I don't think hes trying to play hero ball just not comfortable in the offense. Still encouraging that he is giving good effort in other parts of the game though. Thats the sign of a mature player. He really does move his feet well on defense.

Listening to these press conferences and the one with the Marshall coach a couple things stand out.

First is just how prepared and intelligent BU is. The Marshall coach was asked a question about an Illini player and said he had no idea what he did because he only coaches his team to be the best they can. BU knew everything about every player on both teams, what role they play, tendencies, stats, probably could tell you their mother's maiden names. Not only coaching his team to the best they can be but also how to beat the other team.

Second was how intelligent Kipper is during interviews. Really stands out. Also the team as a whole seems very coachable and responds really well to the message BU is putting out.

Random third thing I was kind of cracking up when they asked Leron on about his fouls and Kipper put in a little "told him to stop hacking" :D

In the first half I was on the floor next to the Marshall bench. Their coach told a kid to go in for someone. The kids goes up to the table, turns around and goes back to the bench. Coach looks at him and said, "I told you to go in for ....." The kid said, "coach I can't go in, I forgot to put my jersey on". Coach lightly bops him in the head and just started laughing.

"Hero ball"! You can't be serious. So far he has lacked aggressiveness on offense. He's been very tentative.

Underwood postgame

https://twitter.com/JWerner247

Underwood: I was excited about our growth today

Underwood: Alstork defense was "off the charts"

Underwood: Threw a lot of guys at Elmore. Pleased about our defense.

Underwood: We were active for 34 minutes tonight. Showed signs of the team we're capable of.

Underwood: Both Marks have to rebound better, more to Aaron Jordan's level.

Underwood: Proud of 19 assists to 6 turnovers. "That's big-boy basketball."

Underwood: Kipper Nichols "hasn't come close" to his ceiling yet.

Underwood: Kipper's versatility is a positive for us. When I can trust him to not take a play off on defensive end, man...

Underwood: He's growing. I'll hug him on Tuesday again. That'll be after practice. In the meantime, I'll continue to push him and drive him."

Underwood: "We don't play according to the score with our effort."

Underwood: I'm ecstatic with how Finke handled his ball-screen coverage. He's an intelligent player. He sees things before they happen.

Underwood: Finke capable of 13-20 points every night.

He is still getting used to the offense, trying to flow with it. Playing great defense and had 4 assists. Love to see him shoot more, but think his lack of scoring has left a void that AJ is picking up. I said long time ago, I think we will have 8 man rotation and 5 guys avg dbl digit scoring. Balance and defense, we will be successful, growing every game. Our test is coming soon.;):illinois:

Yeah, he may lose a bit of PT, but he's very much contributing. Kinda like Da'Monte, he's doing the things that help you win.
